Hassan Whiteside...?!

I don't know who gets along with Hassan. Of the two left over from his time with us, I doubt if JT or Cuz would be considered friends. I have no way of backing that up except I understand Hassan was pretty darn arrogant back then and I doubt that would fly well with either.

I would love to have him on the team now. The combo of Hassan and Cuz would be frightening which, of course, would bring a big smile to my face.

Maybe we have learned a lesson as to what to do with Sim and that is to keep him under our control as long as it takes. If he loses 60 pounds, who knows? He isn't a bad basketball player. He just wears out with a couple runs up and down the court and I suspect his knees are already deteriorating.

Hmm. I wonder what kind of relationship DMC and Hassan had, of any. I recall watching them both during the summer league stint and it seems that they had chemistry on the defensive end. I recall dmc holding his ground against his man and Hassan swooping in for the block. I always wondered why that never was reproduced even a little in actual games.

You would want to wash your hands from what the Magoofs did to him when he was with the Kings.

I remember that they released him way too soon, at the beginning of his 2nd or 3rd season, so that his contract wouldn't become guaranteed. The Magoofs saved themselves a whooping $1.0 million on his minimum contract.

Way to go Magoofs.

I don't think anyone else is still on the team from when he was there, except for DMC and JT, and JT is not going to help recruit his replacement.

But if he is still friendly with DMC, maybe DMC can convince him to return to the team that drafted him, this summer.
Let's not go revisionist history.

Whiteside was NOT NBA ready in any even remote sense of the word. It took him a long time to "get it" and to finally get to the point where he could be of value to an NBA team.

I like what he's become but there was no justification to keep him around back then.

Way wrong. Petrie cut him in the middle of summer league because he thought he was too good for it after his rookie year. He didn't want to put any work into his career. He played like 1 or 2 games and was gone.

can all these performances be Linsanity all over again? until the league figures this guy out and game plans for him....regardless I think he will get a fairly nice pay day in the offseason on length and shot blocking ability alone. The rest is sprinkles as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah, I'm so not convinced. Read that article and follow the link to Amick's article about Whiteside, just in case you're all convinced we made a mistake in letting him go back then.
The article doesn't go into specifics about the altercation. They could of just had a shoving match. I highly suspect players get into fights all the time anyways. It just happens behind closed doors and doesn't get reported.

I'm still confused as to why they didn't take a flyer on Hassan and instead chose Sim.

Hindsight is 20-20 and Whiteside didn't do enough to deserve a roster spot back then. That said, the article certainly doesn't paint the altercation as being Whiteside's fault. If anything it paints Cousins in a bad light. I think it's safe to say they've both grown up since then.

My take was that it sounds more like puffery on Hassan's part than anything else.

This type of stuff happens all the time on teams and the media and public at large rarely hear about it.

Much to do about nothing. Every athlete has an ego and altercations regularly happen.

Unreal, but can't blame the Kings for this one. Whiteside had 0 motivation and very little skill when he was with us. Just a huge body and a fantastic athlete.

In fact, it would have been blatantly irresponsible for us to keep Whiteside around when he had no interest in getting better his first few years in the leagu.e

An article came out a few days ago regarding the Michael Jordan and Will Purdue fight. It say, matter of fact, that fights happened all the time in practices. Purdue set a hard screen on MJ, the Chosen One said do it again and I'll **** you up. Then Phil Jackson instigated it by calling Purdue over and told him to make the exact same screen on MJ again. Purdue did and punches were thrown... from both sides. And this is the franchise player we're talking about and the Voodoo Master told his scrub player to rough him up. NBA practices.

I still remember Isiah Thomas punching Bill Laimbeer during a practice that was captured on TV. The reporters asked Laimbeer afterwards, "What happened?" Laimbeer just shrugged, "Practice man."

Whiteside might have been telling tall tales but one fight alone does not mean anything, imo. Now, if Whiteside had gotten into a fight outside the court in street clothes, that would be a different story.

Robinson? He wishes.

He's light in the rear whatever the exact measurement. Underweight and underpowered and struggles standing in there against power players.

We've got a pusher/shover/power guy who fills that same designated rebounder role with more strength and saavy in Reggie.
