I'm going to disagree: he was dreadful in the first half, but he was pretty damned good in the second half. He did almost everything right after halftime, aside from an ill-advised step back jumper early in the shot clock down the stretch.
Opposing teams know that, with Davis out, they can really make things difficult by putting the squeeze on their guards, Evans in particular. Evans was guarded by the bigger and stronger James Johnson all game, who is their best defender. And they can afford to do that because Davis was not in the game. You know who's guarding Evans if Davis is playing? Kyle Lowry, that's who. And Lowry might be an All-Star, but Evans would have straight run him over all night. As it was, it only took him a half to figure Johnson out: 9 points, on 4-7 shooting, and 7 assists in the second half, and his penetration was essential to getting many of the open looks that Babbitt and Cole had in the second half.
