Muss Arrested

How arent they similar? Artest actually ASSAULTED and HARMED a person. Musselman had a .08 and did not harm anybody, so they are VERY similar. He could have been just fine, and since he is small only a few drinks could cause him to get a little drunk.
We're going to ignore the "smallness" issue, since that has never mattered in the least in any society I can think of beyond frat boys trying to get their dates drunk.

As for the rest, Ron assaulted someone. He received a record length suspension for it and had to go before David Stern and beg not to get booted form the league. Ron committed a crime. On the other hand, Ron's crime had a very low chance of actually resulting in an individual's death before he was pulled away.

Muss on the other hand got drunk and then drove. And 9 out of 10 times you get away with that (a bothersome thng here -- what are the odds he was actually caught on the very first time he did this). And then on the 10th you kill or maim somebody. Much like firing a gun into a theater -- if you miss, is it all good? Hardly. This will be chalked up to a "mistake". But it is the sort of mistake that kills thousands of people every year in this country. Ron committed assault, but in many ways it was the less dangerous action because he wasn't armed with a 1-2 ton steel weapon capable of trraveling at 100mph.

I agree, it is "going to far" to fire him at this point.

Personally though, I don't care about what's "helpful" for him. He didn't think about it when he chose to get in the car and drove.

There's an old saying that goes: "You make your own bed."

Flip it around and let's say he does get in an accident and hurts someone or worse, kills them. Does he get fired? He was the same intoxication level, he just happened to hit someone. He's jailed and going to do prison time, regardless of whether the alcohol caused the accident. Think about that for a minute.

He made that bed when he sat in the car and took it out of park.
Agreed.

There is NO excuse for drinking and driving. None. It isn't cool and it is one of the dumbest things you can do. Talk to folks who lost loved ones due to this problem and how worthless their loved ones seem when the offender gets a slap on the wrist.

Sorry - to me, if you drink and drive and kill someone you should be charged with first-degree murder. You made a choice, you deal with the ramifications.

Personally, between the certainty of being hit once by a 250 lb athlete or the possibility of being hit by a 2 ton automobile, would probably play it safe and be hit by the athlete.

I AGREE with that. But the thing is, he DID NOT kill anybody, and did not hurt anybody. Yes, it is a huge deal, and driving drunk is horrible, but he needs to deal with the law because of it. But being FIRED because of it? That just my arguement: I don't think he should be fired.

I think you're misreading most of the people here. Very few have said ANYTHING about him being fired. We're not going to sugarcoat it, however. This is serious - more serious because of who he is, who he works for, etc.

And where in anything I posted did I say he should?

I agree - let the law handle it, and he should be let known by MSE under no uncertain terms that this is NOT to happen again.

And I wouldn't give a "regular person" a pass for driving drunk... so why the hell should I give this guy one?
Didn't say to give him a pass I just said he made a mistake. I would venture to guess that everyone here at least knows someone who has had a DUI(unfortunately I know several) and people should realize that this happens all the time(not that I condone it but it is a fact) and people do have to pay the consequences for their actions.

He does not need to be fired......he may/may not be an alcoholic but to label him one in this forum is ridiculous(someone posted that he was an alcoholic in this forum but I'm to lazy to look it up).

Contrary to popular belief people can drink without being an alcoholic and just because they do it does not label them as one.

Ive read atleast two posts about him being fired, and one post from Bricklayer stating "if I saw Muss right now I'd probably knock him on his scrawny ***"

I just don't think he should be fired.

wow.... sounds like someone influential got on the phone and told that cop to sharpen his eraser! A .08 is a whole different story... borderline DUI. No Contest - suspended sentence.... "misunderstanding".

If he blew a .08 then I think that is complete #$@!. When it comes to blowing a .08 all that is for a 150 lb. man is like a beer and a half. It is the law but it is complete bull #$*%.

yeah, sure it is. They just pull those numbers out of their arse. It doesn't have anything to do with impaired driving ability or judgment or anything like that. It's just the man with his foot on the throat of the people.

Had you bothered to read the whole thread, you would have seen that someone (JKbiker, I believe) took the time to check out one of the sites that detail how many drinks would register what readings and that it was more than just a beer and a half.

We don't have to get the tar and feathers ready, but I - as a Kings fan since 1985 - am NOT going to just excuse this with the "it was only .08." He drank and then he drove. That's wrong ... and stupid ... and not acceptable. It's not acceptable to me and I'm pretty willing to bet it's not acceptable to the guys paying him the BIG BUCKS to coach their NBA team.

Kings coach Musselman nabbed in DUI arrest
By Ryan Lillis and Sam Amick - Bee Staff Writer
Last Updated 12:55 pm PDT Saturday, October 21, 2006

First-year Kings coach Eric Musselman was arrested early Saturday on suspicion of driving under the influence, authorities said.

Musselman was arrested on K Street in midtown Sacramento around 2:15 a.m. after cutting off another motorist, according to officer Jasper Begay, a California Highway Patrol spokesman. Musselman, who had coached the Kings to a 112-96 victory over the Utah Jazz on Friday night, his first game at Arco Arena, failed a field sobriety test and had a blood alcohol level above the legal limit of .08 percent, Begay said.

It is unclear where Musselman was in the hours between the end of the exhibition game and his arrest.

In a statement released Saturday, Kings president of basketball operations Geoff Petrie said, "I received a phone call from Eric at approximately 6 a.m. this morning, notifying me that he was arrested and charged with a DUI violation. He was very apologetic and ashamed for the lack of discretion leading to this situation.

"On behalf of the Kings organization, we are very disappointed in the poor personal behavior which precipitated this incident. We also believe Eric will face this adversity honestly and appropriately. Eric will be available to talk to the media prior to Sunday morning's practice."

Musselman was driving with three passengers -- two women and one man -- when he made a right turn onto K Street from Alhambra Boulevard, Begay said. The officer did not know who the passengers were.

Soon after turning on to K, Musselman allegedly cut off another driver and was pulled over by a CHP patrol officer near the Capital City Freeway underpass, Begay said.

The officer "smelled the odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle" and "observed objective signs of intoxication" from Musselman, Begay said. The coach was asked to step out of the vehicle and failed a field sobriety test, Begay said.

He was taken into custody and was booked into the Sacramento County Jail at 3:14 a.m., Begay said.

"Unfortunately he made the wrong choice and got behind the wheel of a car and got arrested," Begay said.

Musselman, a former Golden State Warriors coach and Memphis Grizzlies assistant, was hired in June to replace longtime coach Rick Adelman, who guided Sacramento to eight consecutive playoffs.

Please don't turn this personal.

My money is that it was a .11. Ron Artest lost millions in salary for attacking a fan, and that was Ron Ron showing restraint. If he'd really beat the snot out of him, then yes, I think he wouldn't be able to get a job in the NBA any more.

But these two offenses have nothing to do with eachother, they are years and thousands of miles apart.
Crandell said FOX read a copy of the official report so I don't think there is any debate anymore about what he was at.

LOL come on now DUI is one thing to crack down on but lets not go bad mouthing porn.

Which makes me ponder. If only Jenna Jameson was a good basketball coach my lifes hobbies could be rolled into one.

Wow Entity,
Apparently you are an absolute model citizen who never makes mistakes. I would like to know where you grew up so I know where to live when I have kids.
What he did was wrong, no doubt. He will have to live with the consequences. But to call for him to be fired as some of you are doing is just an absolute joke.

No i don't think so. This is a non issue for me. As long as nobody got hurt i could care less about it. In fact i liked C-Webb more when i found out he was smoking. lol It was probably some Rick Adelman loving cop that wanted to has his 15 min by getting back at the organization.
you are kidding right? drunk driving not serious? like 4 months ago before the draft jj reddick got a dui and everyone was ripping on him

I didn't say it wasn't serious i said it was a non issue with me as long as nobody got hurt. when that happens then the game changes.

lol i never said he should be fired. Hell i have been arguing the opposite point in fact the same point you are.
I was commenting on your signature. I guess I should have separated my comments because I was talking about all the other people who want him fired. Sorry. Although now I take it as a joke. Again sorry for overreacting.

He was arrested after making an unsafe lane change and cut someone off and the officer stopped him and smelled alchoal on his breath. Petrie came out and said Musselman called him at 6am this morning and told him of the arrest and was very appologetic and that the Kings organization was very disappointed. They also said Musselman will address the media tomorrow morning before there morning practice. Oh and it has been confirmed it was a .11. I guess Jim Crandell also said Musselman is a mess right now at his house very embarressed and disappointed this happened.

He got lucky nobody got hurt. People take DUI's with a grain of salt. It's to bad, because the potential for someone being killed or seriously injured when someone is drunk driving is out there. Our laws are to light for DUI's IMO. Driving is a privilege not a right and getting your license cut up for life in not unreasonable if you get behind the wheel intoxicated. It doesn't take much to turn a car into a weapon instead of a tool for transportation.

This stinks.

I will withhold my final judgement until i have all the details, but Muss doesn't get a pass from me just because he is the Kings coach. He should be punished like anyone else who commits that crime. Considering too that he isn't just a regular guy he needs to go further than that in my book. He needs to apologize and find a substantial way to make amends.

I totally agree 100%!

My two cents... shouldn't have happened because...
1. You shouldn't get behind the wheel of a car after you drink- it's not like he can't afford a cab or know at least ONE person who would pick him up.
2. Representing the Sacramento Kings & MSE, he should know that he is a role model and in the public spotlight.

With that being said, I am not going to hate on him- people make mistakes and I am very curious to hear his statements and the Kings Organization's statements about the event.

He is only human and I just hope it doesn't happen again- once is a mistake, twice is a pattern...
