Do those $1 beers include GOOD beer? I'm talking like Sierra Nevada? If so, one would be hard pressed to keep me from that game....

What about instead of just anybody moving down or whatever, if they just set aside a few seats down in the lower bowl and made it a nightly promotion -- have a nightly drawing of some sort amongst the upper deck tickets and whoever won would get to sit down in the set aside lower deck seats for the night. Alternately instead of a drawing could have Slamson or members of the dance team go up there and make a production of it just before the game or during an early timeout or some such, pick a group to be the ones to come on down (would also avoid moving Lakers fans etc. on down that way).

Could work for the same reason people buy lottery tickets. Even if the chance is small, could get peole buying cheap tickets on the chance that maybe they get to move down to ringside seats that night.
That's actually kind of one of the ideas i submitted:

Play something like Beyonce's "Let me get an upgrade" and have the hype guy call out a few seat numbers, then move them down to the really good seats. I also suggested a place where they could set up a couple of Lazy Boys (I've seen that at baseball games) and make a de facto living room section to watch the game in style. Also, let a pair of fans sit right next to Grant and Jerry, with headsets and everything. Another couple of fans get to sit on Media Row with headsets as well. I really think that would be a good experience.

I wanted to give away a pair of tix on my show to let two fans sit media row, with headsets. Get them media passes, and let them watch the game, go the the media lounge, etc. Then they (with help from a kings.com writer) basically do a writeup on the game from their perspective. Get a picture of them enjoying the game, put it with the writeup, and splash it on Kings.com. Thought that would be a fun experience.

I'm assuming its going to be a domestic draft. I do know its 12 ounce beers, and you can get up to two at a time, up till halftime.
I was listening to your show last night kegging up some beer when you were asking how many ounces a pint was. Thought it was ironic, I could have answered all of your beer questions and thought about calling in. I enjoy your show. Thanks brutha.

I too would assume it would be some Coors lite or something, something the masses enjoy over something a connissuer like myself would want. Makes sense.

Keep it up, folks. With us here and Dave on the radio I think we're giving them some new ideas. Since we're all after the same thing - filling Arco and making it rock like the Casbah - I love to see people coming up with new ideas, and from what we're hearing MSE likes it, too!

Idea for STH: Is there a STH lounge? Maybe somewhere just STH can go before a game, much like the VIP lounge they have in some airports? Pamper them just a bit, have the dance team in there and get sponsors to donate nifty door prizes.

Glimmer of a thought:

Ever thought about somehow tying Kings tickets to the use of credit cards? Perhaps team up with BofA, Visa, Mastercard, whoever, and see if there's potential for some kind of "Roll your change into Kings tickets or merchandise" deal.

The concept borrows from the "keep the change" program BofA has in place: when someone uses their card (it need not even be a credit card, it could be a debit card), an extra amount, say, between 25 and 50 cents per purchase or whatever the cardholder elects to defer, goes towards Kings stuff.

What about setting some sections aside for bidding on seats? You'll fill up some of the sections that arent being sold, and get reasonable returns on them. Let the market dictate the prices of those seats.

Spanish paper Marca says that tickets at Memphis against Thunder will be between 3 and 33 dollars. I guess economical situation at Memphis' area is much harder than NorCal's, but maybe putting really ridiculous prizes during a match or two can work...

If I lived in Sacramento I would have bought season tickets..
But I live in Israel.. Watching live games here = waking up at 3 AM..

And a good idea to sell tickets is that the players will sell.. That would be so awesome if Beno would say to me "hi, want some tickets?"

I am not, nor have I ever been a season ticket holder, but what about offering something like additional half priced game tickets to season ticket holders.

Example:
  • Season ticket holder has two tickets in lower bowl. Offer that season ticket holder an additional two tickets in the same section for half the price. This way they can get a great deal on some tickets for their friends or family.
  • The same thing will apply to someone in the upper bowl. They would be offered tickets in their section at half the price.
My thought on this is that I would assume season ticket holders are die hard fans and probably know someone close to them that would be interested in going to game at a great discount.

Season ticket holders would also not be offended that their section is filling up with people that are not having to pay the same price that they did, because the deal is going to someone that they know.

This creates a situation where your biggest fans are selling tickets for you.

Evidence this thread gets FO looks?

I picked up a schedule from a Kings kiosk at the Roseville Galleria today. They were hyping the game tonight. I couldn't really stop to see what all they were doing exactly, but they had merch there. You could, in all likelyhood, buy tickets there as well. Didn't check.

how about a meet and greet with a player or two when they are selling at a particular location? it would be a huge draw for the location and tickets.

I got an idea, upon the purchase of merchandise totaling something like 80 dollars you get a free ten dollar ticket. 150$ = 2 free 10$ tickets (+ plus a bumper sticker or something), or one 25$ ticket. The intent is to get them in the arena at game time so they can show off their new merchandise, and hopefully buy more stuff.

If they don't want the tickets, or the customer is out of state, just give them a coupon that entitles them to an equal gratuity at a later date.

This was Inspired by a recent shopping experience. I think I spent 75$ at The Children's Place and they gave me a 20$ off coupon that I could use a month later.

As STHs we go to a lot of games. And many nights Kings Row is mostly empty. EVERY one of those empty seats should be given away every time. 2/3 to STHs and 1/3 to regular attendees. Above all, fans like to feel like the organization recognizes them.

Do you mean to other STH's that are in attendance, or raffled off?

I also have noticed that they (MSE) made their Wednesday night promotion known primarily through the use of e-mail to kings.com members. Although this is convenient and cost effective, there is a disconnect of the fan base from the team, and I can't be sure that e-mailing fans who are actively involved with the team is the most overall effective way to promote such a thing. To draw new people into the stands you must expose these sorts of deals in the most "in-your-face" manner possible. I suggest utilizing adspace on sacbee.com to do so, and getting the info out to news stations (radio and TV). Sports guys in the region should have no qualms about making a passing mention of such things during their segment of the broadcast.

Edit: these massive promotions should be mentioned every day in the Kings Corner section of sacbee.com. If it weren't for the Kings, the writers would probably be out of a job, so it would behoove them to mention these things constantly.

Really, this is a solid idea. Great seats that are unsold should be given (raffled, as it were) away to people actually at the game. With all of the electronic monitoring going on, they've clearly got a computer record somewhere of which seats are unsold, and who is already in the arena off the ticket scan. Close off sales of the big $$ seats 30-45 minutes before game time (unless they have any data that suggests that these seats may actually sell in that time frame) and start the upgrade process. A computer program, a couple of ushers...it wouldn't be terribly difficult. I like the 2/3 STH, 1/3 regular idea, because it rewards the STHs.

Also, they have to advertise that they're going to do this. The odds of getting the upgrade are low, obviously, but there might be a lot more draw if people know they have a chance to upgrade. Even an only 1% shot of getting the best seats in the house makes a pair of $40 tickets a bit more palatable...and given the way we're playing this year, particularly at home, the many people who don't get upgrades will be likely to enjoy the entertainment value and come back.

Obviously they'd have to weigh a lot of factors: how many extra people/$$ will a promo like this bring in, how many high-dollar ticket sales will they lose, etc. You probably don't have to worry about too many people skipping expensive seats to buy cheap seats and a chance, for one because the STHs are getting 2/3 of the upgrades (and they already had their tickets).

In an economy where the expensive seats are not being sold, this seems to only make sense.

Exactly. Airlines give empty first class seats to frequent flyers, maybe the Kings should give the empty first class seats to STHs and frequent attendees.

Soooo.....

I got this back last week. Did a thing on my show similar to this thread, and took some of the best ideas I heard (and read) and shipped them off to my "friend who gets things done" in the front office.

They replied, and I thought I'd share it with you guys. Pretty cool.

(in no particular order)

1. Ticket upgrade: Kind of a deviation of the idea floating to let the upper level move down to the lower level at halftime when seats are open....Do something like playing Beyonce's "Let me get an upgrade" during a timeout(s) and have the hype guy call out a few seat numbers, and move those people to some prime lower seats.

We do these. Not necessarily to the Beyonce song (which I love the song, so will share that with our entertainment department). But, we do upgrades almost every game from upper to lower bowl for lucky fans. Armon, Jenn or Fresh our emcees do it during a time out or quarter break.

You could also set up a couple of Lazy Boys in one of the corners and let two lucky fans sit there. Throw in a coffee table and free popcorn and sodas and make it their own personal living room.

Funny, we have actually been working on this concept with a partner of ours for some time. It is not finalized, but we love this idea and we actually have renderings, etc. that show what this could look like (similar concept to above).

2. Fans in the media. Let two fans per game attend media style. Let them sit on media row (and/or next to Grant and Jerry) and wear headsets, get stats, etc. Assign them an escort to let them know where to sit, etc. Let them have a temporary Media pass, parking, entrance at security where they meet up with their escort. Let them ask a player a few questions, all accompanied by a writer for kings.com. Then after the game, the kings.com writer basically interviews them, takes a picture of them at their seats, and posts a writeup of their experience and thoughts on the game, player interview, etc on kings.com the next day. So basically, beat writers for a game.

We do these with different media partners, like News10, Fox 40, the Bee, etc. and we have done promotions directly with our talent (Grant, Jerry, Gary). we have done meet and greets and special VIP fan experiences with multiple radio DJ’s across CBS radio stations and we have a lot more promotions like this concept slotted for the year with different media members.

3. Single ticket availability for all games

Single game tickets are available for all games. I just went on-line and checked even games like Cavs, etc.

4. Bring back the McDonald's (or whoever) family packs. 4 tix, meals, etc for a set price

We do these now on our own. We have Slamson’s Value Meal, Guys night out, Girls Night out and a Family pack. All include tickets and different food offerings, etc. All are inclusive packages. We also create special game by game promotions with different media members, including Fox 40, News10, CBS 13/CW and KHTK and other CBS radio stations. We have many more in the works for the rest of the season with these different groups.

5. Do more single game gimmicks, baseball style. First 10,000 fans get a bobblehead, calendar, ball, hat, jersey, trading cards, etc.

We hear this one a lot. Much research has been done on day of game giveaways and the actual only item that really sells tickets are bobbleheads across the major sports leagues. The other items, we hear straight from the fans on and those are things like food, beer, etc. Which is why you have seen buffets, $1 beers, $1 sodas, $1 waters, and we plan on doing more this season. We did the bobbleheads this year as a part of a great 2-game holiday plan that includes some of the best games of the year (lakers, cavs, nuggets, magic) and a free Omri or Tyreke bobblehead.

6. Do in game performance gimmicks. For every rebound JT gets in the 3rd quarter, take that amount off parking the next game. If the Kings score 25 or more points in the 2nd, get a free Taco at Taco Bell. For every three pointer the Kings make in the first, take a dollar off of beer for the second quarter. The possibilities are endless. The capper would be to have a readout sign somewhere in the arena counting up whatever stat is appropriate, so the place could go crazy when/if they hit the goal.

We are looking into this idea further.

7. Buy a ticket, get one free. You could confine it to upper deck, or make it the whole arena. Establish a B list of games (Memphis, Clippers, etc) and tell the fans: Buy a a ticket(s) for this game, get another ticket(s) of equal or lesser value to any additional "B" game the rest of the season.

We will be launching some new day of game offers in January. Stay tuned, we have more ideas in the works that plays off of this idea.

8. Do a raffle night. Tons of prizes. Dont have to be huge. Maybe the 3rd timeout of every game is raffle time

We will look into this idea further.

9. Day of game 5 dollar tickets. Do this at a combination of the Arco box office, and a strategic partner if you want. Depending on sales, release X number of upper level seats day of game (noon or something) that fans can show up and grab. Simple.

Same as No. 7 We will be launching some new day of game offers in January. Stay tuned, we have more ideas in the works that plays off of this idea.

10. College theme nights. Show your Sac State ID and get a 5 dollar ticket, or something. Make it a huge promotion and invite the team band to sit in an upper level section for free. Have them play a few selected songs during timeouts, bang the drums during the game, and do a thing at halftime. Combine that with dollar beer night and the place will probably collapse on its foundation

We are actually working on a college ticket offer program now. One that we could do with the Sac State’s, UCD’s and JC’s etc. that includes a ticket to the game and food and beverage offerings for a college student in mind. We would also incorporate entertainment from the schools that wanted to participate.

11. Free Parking. Free Parking. Free Parking. Use it. Do it once in a while if the Kings break 110 points. Make it a promotion. Team up with KHTK and do 1 dollar and 40 cent parking. Stuff like that.

We have more ideas that are not fully developed yet that we plan to be releasing in the New Year.. so stay tuned.

12. Have people telemarket fans who went to the game, and opt to leave their number in a comment box. Solicit ideas and solution (or just general thoughts from the fans) and call a handful of them back, asking how their game experience was. Reward them with free/discounted tickets, or kings merchandise.

This is a great idea and we are going to look into this further.

13. Report Card night. Decide on a criteria (all A's, all A's and B's, etc) and do a "bring your report card, get in free night. Maybe give out a 4 pack of tix with concession vouchers for 20 bucks. There's a lot to play with there. But bottom line, involve the report cards and the schools. You get community involvement points, and increase the brand with families as well. Winner all the way around.

We have some different school related programs currently in place, but this is a nice idea that we will look into to see if a concept like this, can be added into the mix.

14. My favorite idea is one you are almost already doing. I read a study on value meals once, and found that the consumer only saved an average of 10% buying a meal, as opposed to purchasing the same food items seperately. The popularity of value meals came in the psychology. Its the same concept as a grocery store card, like safeway has. People like gearing their grocery shopping towards items that are club card eligible, and then seeing the savings show up at checkout. In reality, without the card they could save as much using coupons or normal everyday discounts, but people like all-inclusive discount pricing. The K.I.S.S. method.

So create value DEALS for the fans. I see the 99 dollar 4 ticket plan, but it doenst include parking. Throw the parking in with the tickets and food vouchers. Heck, get Arco or someone to throw in a 5 dollar gas card. That way, you can market it as such:

EVERYTHING IS COVERED AT ONE PRICE

People complain on my show all the time that in order to take their family, when you include tickets, food, drinks, parking, gas, etc.....it comes to 2-3-4 hundred bucks.

So set the price at whatever ( I say keep it at 99 bucks), but offer 199 deals for lower level, and market it as ALL-INCLUSIVE. No loopholes. Even gas is covered.

Again, we have some things in the works that play-off of this. We obviously have multiple all inclusive packages for tickets and food and beverage.. so stay tuned for after the New Year.
Thanks for passing these along. I love getting all of these ideas. I have looked through all of them and wrote what we are currently doing to assist in communication to our fans and comments on those we are going to look into further.

Thanks again for sharing.

Thanks for passing along the response Carmichael Dave. At least we know they're listening. The truth is, it really does seem like MSE marketing people are working pretty hard these days, trying to woo the fans back. Hoepfully there are people willing to be wooed. ;)

Excitement sells.
I have friends calling me left and right tonight asking me if I saw what the kings did to the bulls. Excitement like this will sell tickets. Tonights game is worth 41 $1 beer nights.
