Look, in industries with "stars", with highly valuable uniquely skilled employees? yes, people absolutely do often get to pick their boss, or at least get one fired they don't like. All comes down to value in the end. If you are a drone, then the boss is likely more valuable, and to get rid of them you would have to plant farm animal porn in their desk and slip an anonymous note under the door of a high up muckety muck. But if you are a star, a rare and sought after commodity? That boss better learn to kiss your ass in a hurry unless they are stars themselves.
What's quite clear right now is that Karl is done, and that Boogie is looking after this as HIS team, as HIS guys. He's their leader and mother hen (which BTW is great to see from your superstar). Karl is the one on the outs. Cuz is practically lifting his leg and peeing all over the lockerroom.
I am reminded of a closing scene in an old Conan movie (the 2nd sucky one), where the young queen wants to bestow honors on Conan's companions, including asking them to join her court in various posts. And each time she asks one of them to join, they first look to Conan to get his nod of approval before accepting. We may see that with Cuz and substitutions soon.
