I feel like a ****ing idiot right now:

For the better part of twenty-five years, I've been trying to remember the name of this song by Rob Base and DJ EZ Rock, that I only heard once, when I was in the ninth grade. I went through their entire catalog, like, four different times, and I couldn't find it. It was driving me crazy. When I discovered the site www.whosampled.com a few years ago, I thought, "Yes! Now I'll finally be able to figure out the name of that Rob Base song!"

Nothing.

After being continually frustrated, I finally let it go, and put it out of my mind. Until a few minutes ago, when I had a Fridge Brilliance moment, as I realized, "Wait a minute, there was an SWV song that used that same hook! And I remember the name of that song! I'll look it up on whosampled, and I'll finally figure out what the name of this goddamned song is!"

And it worked!

I used whosampled to determine that the SWV song that I remember sampled this song by seventies funk band Freedom, which was also sampled by the song in question... At which point, I realized that the reason why I hadn't been able to find this Rob Base and DJ EZ Rock song for the past twenty-five years, is because it is not, in fact, a Rob Base and DJ EZ Rock song. The song was actually performed by Boogie Down Productions.

Has that ever happened to anyone else?

I think I'm at the point where I dread success more than failure.

I got rejected for a job that at one point I really wanted and my immediate reaction was one of relief rather than disappointment. Less responsibility (albeit less money) for me! Woohoo!

Or maybe I'm just crazy.

Had something similar happen to me before where I was passed up for a promotion for someone whom I believed to be an inferior employee and had a similar reaction. It sort of went like this in my head. ENJOY WORKING LIKE A DOG FOR A FEW BUCKS MORE I'M GOING HOME TO MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS AND WATCH THE GAME SUCKA!

It all depends on where you are in life. When I was raising my son alone, there was a lot of drama, problems. Going to work was my relaxing time. So, I didn't want to get promoted to a job where both home and work would be overwhelming. Sometimes money isn't what matters, either.

^^ Truer words have never been said regarding the post about money isn't everything. That's the trap I fell in for the longest time and always thought that's what would make me the happiest but that really is not the case, it's about finding your passion in life and applying that to your career.

Only two episodes in, and I'm officially "all in" on Scorpion. With my professional background being largely IT in general, and InfoSec in particular, one might think that I'd hate this show, and one would be loud wrong. This is not only my favorite new show this season, this is my favorite show since they cancelled Chuck. I'm all in for this show until it gets cancelled which, with my track record, will probably be next week.

Every critic, and I do mean every critic, either online or in print, is killing this show. And they - to quote the great Mexican philosopher Bender Bending Rodriguez - can bite my shiny metal ass.

Totally agree about Scorpion. I read up on Walter O'Brien - he's a pretty interesting character. Based on his background, I don't think they'll kill his show...not if they want anything computer-related to keep working. :p

Scorpion gives me that vibe in whatever obstacle those geniuses are faced with they will weather it regardless of time or situation, which sometimes gets stale when they are always succeeding and not failing but it's too early to tell so enjoy!

Like I said, it's a vibe and there are shows that had their fair share of failures as well as successes. It's all about balance and now swinging on one side of the pendulum.

I really wish that I could find an active community on the internet where I could go to discuss my favorite TV shows, that isn't overrun by fourteen year-old girls (i.e. Livejournal) or cretins (i.e. Reddit).

Yeah, that cleared it right up.

Let me try to make it easier for you:

The combination of your words, as currently structured, do not lend themselves to anything remotely resembling cogent thought at least in my ability to so perceive.
