We suck

People on here bitching and moaning, disagreeing, what have you, is better than the alternative, which is people just not caring anymore and finding another way to fill their time than following this team.

As much as some of us disagree with each other at times(and you and I have had our disagreements), and it'll get heated more often when the team is in the spiral of losing its in and has been in for almost a decade, I'm repeatedly impressed with how many Kings fans still stand by the team, stick it out and are willing to still talk/converse about the team. In a number of other markets fans get up and leave, don't return until winning basketball returns. This forum probably helps keep people interested as it's a way to vent and voice frustration. Without out, we'd probably just turn off the tv and go do something else.

Fans are dying for success, dying for a reason to believe it'll get better. But its also been so long some are going to be more pessimistic than others, angrier than others, have less patience than others, more doubt, etc, but at least we're still here. That's why next year is so important as empty promises and unfulfilled expectations will catch up to ownership at some point and fans will leave, they will find other ways to fill their time and I'm not sure how many will stick around if we go through yet another losing season next year.
I don't disagree with a thing you said. And though you and I have disagreed at times, I've always looked at you as a voice of reason. I think disagreements get blown out of proportion at times, because maybe the only time I might respond to you, is when I disagree with you. Perhaps I should let you know about all the times I agree with you but say nothing, because I feel you've said it all. As negative as the current culture is right now, it would all turn on a dime if the team starts winning next season. Of course that's a big if. All I can do on a personal level is try to stay positive, which I admit, is damm difficult right now. If we have another season next year like this one, you probably won't hear much from me. I have to draw the line somewhere.

As exciting as this conversation is, I'm heading out the door to head south, have a few cervesa's with a good friend, and perhaps dip my fishing pole in the water. I'll have my laptop with me to check in on the game. Or not! See ya on the other side.

I'm sure the die hards here will come rushing back if we are winning even 43% of our games next year. But this team is getting into a dangerou spots with it's casual fans. Not that we have many casual fans, but the folks they need to lure back not to loose a fortune. Kings have been a losing team for 9 season. After the team got of to a sustained hot start, a lot of casual fans in Sacramento gave the team a second look and started watching more game and coming back out to games. And fans were promptly show dysfunction, losing, and ugly basketball. I'm certain that lead a lot of folks to conclude, oh yeah, that's why I don't watch these games. This team sucks and this is no fun.

For the casual fans, the team is both going to have be close to .500 and prove it for a little while after this circus season.

Hopefully that happens and fans are really pumped up for the first season in the new arena. And hopefully that's a huge season for us, otherwise I think it's Boogie's last in Sacramento.

They inherited and turned the roster from:

Isaiah Thomas-Darren Collison
Tyreke Evans-Ben McLemore
John Salmons-Rudy Gay
Jason Thompson-Jason Thompson
Demarcus Cousins-Demarcus Cousins

Tony Douglas-Andre Miller
Marcus Thornton-Nik Stauskus
Travis Outlaw-Omri Casspi
Patrick Patterson-Carl Landry
Cole Aldrich-Reggie Evans

Jimmer-Ray McCallum
Chuck Hayes-Ryan Hollins
Nobody-Derrick Williams

And now they need to turn over at least half of the roster again? What the f are they doing?
they're preparing nba 4.0 which means more lottery picks :D

i don't even get excited for lotto picks anymore. they're only going to use it on a shooter

Can we agree that George Karl is not an idiot. You don't win that many games in your career without knowing what your doing. So then why are we still losing games we should have won? Frankly, I don't think that Karl gives a tinkers damm whether we win or lose or not. Well, let me rephrase that. I think that if we happen to win, it's OK, but if we lose, that's OK too. I think Karl is using the rest of the season to figure out who fits on this team and who doesn't. Which combinations work, and which don't. Just what is the current team capable of doing. I think his two main concerns are how to utilitize Cousins and Gay to the best of their abilities, and who to surround them with.
Our only hope is that Divac and Karl take over all the personnel decisions of this team. (Divac can take his giant mitt, place it over PDA's dome, and place him in the corner). Then they need to take a bulldozer to this team. It's going to take, daring, guts, and intelligence to pull it off.

Based on several Karl interviews I've heard, I do think Karl wants to win now, this season. In today's interview I heard frustration from him about the defense, which is a marked shift from the placid equanimity he's shown. The shift is from patience with players making a transition to impatience with the lack of responsiveness in the players. .

Of course we suck. With DC out of the line-up, our best guard is?........I dunno....BMac? How awful is that?

We have the weakest back court in the league and it is not even close.

I'd like someone to pull up some of the rosters that Karl inherited whether it was midseason or in the offseason that helped him have some of those impressive records with a certain amount of games.

I hope the FO knows that just cause we're moving into a new building everything is not automatically going to be hunky-dory.
Check out the complete CF that Levi Stadium and the 49ers have turned into.

Except that is nowhere near the level of disaster that the Kings are in that (a) they have a great GM with a successful track record, (b) have a winning culture in place (more importantly, experience winning), (c) a talented roster with a good mix of veterans and youngsters, and (d) a front office that runs like a well-oiled machine and generally puts pieces together the right way

Meanwhile, the Kings have (a) a GM that has much of a successful track record as a GM as I do (that is to say none) has more experience being a lawyer than he does scouting NBA talent, (b) a ten year losing streak featuring broke owners actively trying to move the franchise and a new owner who appears to think himself to be the basketball equivalent of Steve Jobs while he's really more the basketball equivalent of a crazy homeless guy shouting about the endtimes on the street corner, (c) a roster featuring one superstar, one upper-tier small forward, a solid point guard, a back-up big man (maybe), and a huge scrapheap of assorted junk, and (d) a front office that fired a coach in the midst of the franchise's best start in a decade because his team was too focused on defense and not focused enough on highlights all after his best player acquired a rare brain infection, all on top of the fact they accidentally put together a semi-solid uglyball team while SIMULTANEOUS espousing the virtues of paciness and run and gunniness.

So yeah. Those situations are totally the same.

I'll start a thread on it later. Have recently decided to split upa giant thread that in composition into a series of smaller ones. Parts 1 & 2 were going up anyway. I will add another. And the grades. With girls. Come on offseason!

I hope you r right Bajaden.

P.S.
Since we are hanging our hopes on the draft once again - does anybody know, if it's possible to watch some College basketball legally via the internet as an international basketball fan? I would love to watch some of the prospects coming into the NBA next season.

What if the Kings are playing all out in the first halfs to show what they can do under Karl and then throwing the games in the 2nd to help the draft position

Mod voice, in the nicest way possible:

Let's try to keep this from going too far off topic. Comparisons of the Kings to the 49ers are fine, insofar as they are useful, but let's not turn this into a 49ers discussion. In the "General" forum there is already an NFL discussion thread with some Niners talk and if anybody wanted to start a 49ers-centered thread I'm sure it would be frequented by those interested.

Second mod note: I've moved the discussion of the 49ers to the annual NFL discussion thread. :) - VF21
