Grant calls out front office on his radio show

This has not been Grant's MO in all the years I've listened to him. He's never ripped into the ownership and front office like this. If anything he's been criticized for being a mouthpiece for the Maloofs. This makes me think one of three things:

(1) He's really so frustrated as to risk his job by hammering Vivek and the front office.
(2) The Maloofs had him under lock and key and the new ownership has given him more free reign to express his true feelings
(3) Grant still largely works as a mouthpiece for ownership and Vivek is having him lay the ground work to try and fix this mess. Maybe by walking it back and rehiring Malone.

I'd love it if it was (3) but I seriously doubt it. I also don't believe it's (1). So I'm left to think Grant has a little more freedom to express his true feelings and unsurprisingly he feels the same way we do.

Whatever the case, I'm so much happier hearing this from him than, "We have to be patient, the team almost moved and there's a plan in place blah, blah, blah."

Good for Grant.

Firing PDA and Mullin then bringing back Malone is the obvious solution.

He says the old Kings had a system and teams had to adjust to them. Until our Kings can do that, they're gonna suffer. And there's no way they can develop a system overnight with a change in leadership and direction. He's very complimentary of Cousins and says the guy plays with as much heart as any player he's ever seen.

Doug is happy to be given the opportunity to broadcast (nothing mentioned about Bobby).

He thinks Ben is really improving and working on his defense. Says his improvement on defense is helping his offense. Doug thinks Ben should work more on his steals, that he could get a lot more of them. (Flashback to Grand Theft Christie!)

Napier is talking about how unbelievably intelligent the FO and owner are. There is a problem with that: Intelligent people can do very stupid things, typically because of their inexperience and hubris. Grant also said that "we need a plan." No we don't need a plan, we need a freaking fantastic plan. We had a plan under Malone that was good. The only way forward is to get a coach that everybody knows is great and then give that individual autonomy within the organization.

Jones says he talked to Cousins TODAY and nobody on the team knew Corbin was going to be the coach the rest of the year until it hit social media last night.

He says they don't understand why Malone still isn't their coach and what they did to get Malone fired. He says they're really confused, since some of them had never won until this year with Malone.

The FO has gone dark. They are not communicating with the players, the media or the fans. Not even sure what that means. The one communication we get is a leak that Corbin has been signed for the remainder of the year.

If I had to guess, there is some major issues being ironed out behind closed doors. Dangerous when it seemingly brings the whole basketball operations to a halt.

Let us know what Jason Jones is talking about. I think Vivek and FO deserves getting ripped today. They should get ripped everyday in the media until they fix this. Vivek thinks that firing Malone is the same as when he fired someone at Tibco

I could care less if they communicate with the media - in fact I think they need to do that less. But what I do need to see is to see them come out and let the fans know that the organization is actively engaged.

Listening to Jason Jones isn't the most positive thing in the world. Sounds like the Kings are looking for excuses not to like Karl. Sounds like Karl might not want to be the coach of the team even if they wanted him. Overall, sounds pretty bleak.

The thing to remember is that while Vivek is the majority owner and face of the ownership group, he is not the sole owner. There are a lot of other guys with significant basketball acumen who have also invested in the future of this team. I suspect there is some real in-depth discussion of where the team is and where they want to be going on right now.

he said the players are confused by all of this. A lot of this are angry about Malone firing. nobody is happy basically.

also talked about how the uptempo play is not going to work. DMC isn't even getting over halfcourt a lot of the time on offense. just waiting for someone to chuck and get back on defense.
he only got 12 shots last night in a game where he made 9. This offense isn't working and its not suited to our best player

I don't think Jones has any inside track on the whole Karl scenario. I do think, however, he knows what's going on in the locker room. When he says the players are confused and some are angry, I think he's right.

Angry could be Rudy Gay, who just signed an extension in part because of Mike Malone. Angry could also be Darren Collison, who said publicly he was glad to be coming to play for Mike Malone.

In order to communicate with the fans, they have to communicate with the media. It's a symbiotic relationship.

Jones/Napear also bringing up the good point that this isn't about Corbin. Nobody is mad at him. he's just stuck in the middle of this unfortunately. It's about the management and players not being on the same page
