Okay, I started one of these about the bigs, one about the PGs. I pondered making this about our "swingmen" and including both SGs and SFs, but they're clearly a separate issue for us (so were the PF and Cs, but there did not seem much point in just asking about how our C alone ranked).

So, the PG poll has closed now, with most people putting them about #10 or so. Now the question becomes: Assuming that Ben McLemore/Nik Stauskas remain the SG duo, where do the Kings SGs rank amongst teams in the West? Since our guys are young, let's give them a fighting chance and say, by midseason, where will they rank amongst this competition:

POR: Matthews/McCollum
SAC McLemore/Stauskas
GSW Thompson/Barbossa?
LAL Bryant/Young
LAC Redick/Crawford
PHX Bledsoe/Green
UTH Burks/
DEN Afflalo/Foye
OKC Lamb/Morrow
SAN Green/Ginoboli/Bellinelli
HOU Harden/Garcia/Terry?
DAL Ellis/
NOH Gordon/Tyreke
MEM Lee/Allen
MIN Martin/Budinger?

P.S. Have I mentioned recently how much I hate the SG position I the NBA right now? So much blech.

Last the only one you can compare them to are Lamb (who has been crap so far in his career) and Morrow who if given time is probably better than both our guys currently. Bottom two no question.

Another interesting question now would be should we have signed Monta Ellis when we had the chance, I know back when we had the chance I like many other were completely against it on here, but he's turned his career (well not really his career has always been above average) around and has been a stud in Dallas.

An unproven, inconsistent 2nd year player and a rookie who looks like he's still trying to find his place in the offense? Definitely toward the bottom, but the potential ceiling is probably somewhere in the top half for this year. Long term, definitely could become top 1/3.

wow, very tough question.. I'd say 15th (better than OKC), maybe 14th if you factor in production by salary, then our guys are maybe more valuable than Gordon and Tyreke :p

Last.. We have a second year player who isn't very good, and a rookie who hasn't played yet.

We rank last in the league.

I reckon that we are somewhere between the 15th spot to 13th spot, our SGs might be a little better than OKC's SGs and Memphis's SGs.

The way I see it Courtney Lee isn't that good of player though I believe Allen is better because he is an unbelievable defender.

About OKC, Lamb isn't very good, his career numbers are not very decent thus far on the other hand Morrow is a very good shooter, a three-point specialist if you will and yet he can't do much more than that.

Therefore I assume that our shooting guards can be ranked between the 15th spot and the 13th spot.

We're better than UTA, OKC, and probably Dallas just because they don't have a backup SG.
If you're considering that UTA starts Hayward at SF, then I think we're better than them because Burks is more a PG.

OKC has a pretty weak SG. Lamb struggles more than Ben. It's basically McLemore vs Morrow and Stauskas vs Lamb. I'd take ours.

Dead last until proven otherwise.

Going off last year's form or looking at the careers of all the starting SG's mentioned above, Ben is far and away the worst. Nik, as good as he may ultimately end up, is backing up the worst SG in the conference.

So...yeah.

Klay I think will be an AS this year btw.

I can't really rank them. Which Ben will we see during the regular season? I could offer a guess, buts that's all it would be. I agree with Rainmaker on Stauskas. As high as Iám on him, he still has to prove he belongs. And until he does, he has to rank near the bottom. Give me 30 games, and then ask this same question. In general, I'd have to rank them near the bottom until they prove otherwise.

It's a bit unfair to evaluate where our shooting guards rank compared to the rest of those in the western conference considering that half of our shooting guards is a rookie. I think Nik is going to be quite good. Ben....not so much. So assuming the best possible outcome within reason takes place we're still pretty far down the totem pole.

Luckily, the SG position is dogcrap in the NBA, so having a star player there really isn't needed to win.

38% combined from 3 for Nik and Ben and improvement last season on defense there and I'm a happy camper

At this point ALL we have at the SG is young potential and out of position PGs. So it really remains to be seen how well Malone's team will handle the SG.

Maybe a better question would be "how do our SG's rank against all NBA teams in the last 20 years?" The answer would be the same - "about last."

Hopefully this will change this season.

Ya we are bottom at this position until proven otherwise. Good thing is I still believe in the Bucks rumors from June and we will have either Knight or a mayo starting here by February with Nik taking over next year.

The distance between Tony Allen and our SG duo is way wider than you portray it to be.

Courtney Lee is Marcus Thornton with defense and heart he's a very very solid player and is better than every single guard on our roster due to the fact he can do everything on the floor. He was a huge factor in the Magic going to the finals back when Fright was there and a huge factor in turning around/keeping the Grizz afloat last season.

And a complete nonfactor in the years between because he's a blatant mediocrity.

He is not a good of a shooter as Thornton, a better defender no doubt about it, but Marcus is a better shooter from what I can recall.
He was decent in his tenure with the Magic I can certainly agree on it, but the way I see it he was pretty much waned in Memphis and Boston.
