    Per Marc Stein:

Story posting now: League sources tell @ZachLowe_NBA and me that the Kings have received permission to speak to former Sixers GM Sam Hinkie.

League sources say Kings have interest in bringing Hinkie into their front office. Neither exact role nor Hinkie's interest level yet known

    Per Woj:
Kings owner Vivek Ranadive has been quietly searching for an executive to place over Vlade Divac, league sources tell @TheVertical.

I have been calling for this for a long time. Get the man that fleeced us over on our side!
    The master of the Tank!

.....Just make sure he is on board with keeping Joerger.

Do it. Let Vlade be more in charge of evaluating talent which I for one think hes done great at BTW while Hinkie knows the ends and outs of being a GM.

    More from Woj:
As ESPN reports, Sam Hinkie is a target. Ranadive has casually talked with Hinkie, sources say, but Hinkie unsure his interest in job there.

From Sac's minority owners and NBA, there's been pressure on Ranadive to make Kings front office more professional -- starting at top.

the tank would be in full force if this happens, but I would welcome it.

Vlade should have never been hired with his lack of experience

At least this means he's out, as even if Hinkie isn't interested the sword is over Vlade

Hopefully this leads to us establishing some more credibility as we will presumably be involved in many transactions in the coming few years. Hinkie is perfect for us. Will Ranadive finally set his ego aside and let someone else have true full control? I do not think someone as respected as Hinkie would come here unless he is given full control.

Vlade's drafting ability seems on point though, even if he's been getting bested on trades.

I wouldn't hate it if we kept him around.

Hinkie is going to make this team (somehow) even more painful to watch for the foreseeable future if we bring him on.

He might also draft 5 centers in a row.

I may be wrong but didn't Vlade kind of have to assume GM duties? He was brought here to be VP, not GM. I would hope this means they'd be working together because from a rebuild perspective Vlade has undone a lot of the draft damage he created 2 summers ago with his appearing to have nailed this last draft.

LOL I just saw this. The irony is rich that Hinkie would be hired to help Vlade after the fleece job he pulled off!! I would not be opposed to this though Hinkie is not as smart as he pretends. He's a stats nerd who botched Okafor over Porzingis when latter player was a no-brainer! I said so over and over. How do you miss that? That's my first question if I am interviewing him for the position. "Thanks for being here today Mr. Hinkie. First question:

How do you swing and whiff so bad on Porzingis?!"

It was obvious Porzingis had transcendent talent and Okafor was skilled low post plodder. Mr. Trust the Process is far from infallible when he cannot ascertain between these two guys! And they already had Embiid at the time though his foot was an unknown. But Porzingis filled a need for them and was the best talent....and he passed. I think Vlade is maybe better at talent evaluation and Hinkie is better at negotiation. If there is way to divide up responsibilities this way it could work but I doubt Mr. Trust the Process would be interested if he was a subordinate to the guy he ripped off. :)

Good. I love Vlade for his talent evaluation, but he has been objectively garbage at trading.

Loyalty stops where incompetence begins. Vlade botched the Boogie trade royally.

If the Kings bring in Sam Hinke, it better be only as GM, because Hinke only knows how to tank and accumulate picks.

His player drafting history stinks and he does not know how to construct a balanced team.

Sure, we can use Hinke to negotiate trades and get picks, but please don't give him final say in talent acquisitions.

Sam Hinke as GM and Vlade Divac as President of Basketball (i.e. Petrie Role) and final say on any trades or picks, would be okay.

There's going to be some awkward water cooler conversations if Vlade and Sam Hinkie end up working on the same staff after the fleecing he pulled on Vlade while still GM of the Sixers. Hinkie seems like a smart guy and everything, but this would not quiet the rumors that none of the other front offices know who has the authority in Sacramento. It would be seen as Vivek getting his Vlade replacement in line for an eventual Vlade firing. Even the insinuation (made public now) that Vivek is having "casual conversations" with Hinkie makes it look like he's showing Vlade exactly as much loyalty as Vlade showed DeMarcus.

So I don't even know what to think at this point with this front office. Hinkie set up the Sixers with a lot of talent but the message he sends is that we're in for a lot more losing. Should I want Hinkie because he's the GM that managed to extract all of our draft capitol from Vlade 2 years ago? Should I not want him because he might clash with Vlade over who is the real GM in the office? Should I care if Vlade gets fired at this point? Is Hinkie going to want to bring in a different coach if he takes over? I don't even know anymore. I just want the pain to stop.

Not sure why anyone would jump to the conclusion that Vlade was in the dark about Vivek searching for another front office person. He became GM out of necessity due to the snake bed of Pete D. and Chris M. being exposed.

As for Hinkie Im not sure how well he would do or not. I do agree that I think Vlade's eye for talent is trending towards the positive while he certainly could be better at the wheeling and dealing of the role.

This is what I wrote about Porzingis two weeks before the 2015 draft. Notice the little jab at Willie ;)

Let's not get overly excited that Hinkie as a GM savant. That was a major blunder of Jimmer-Klay magnitude! And it didn't take a genius to see so at the time. Now he made up for it with some savvy moves. Saric has been good. And I think he traded Carter-Williams for the Lakers pick which could convey this year. That was another very good move.

Not sure what Hinkie brings to the table. He was the GM for the worst team in the league and continued to purposely make them the worst team in the league. And the idea of him fleecing Vlade--that is yet to be seen.

The Euro history wasn't great. He would've taken major heat if that didn't work out. Okafor was the consensus choice

We could have had two of Rondo, Koufos or Marco by waiving JT and Landry on the stretch provision. We didn't even have to do the trade to get two guys who underperformed and were gone after a year. We could have kept Nik, hope he developed, not have to sweat out swap rights for two seasons, and worst of all owe an unprotected 2019 pick. Whether he was fleeced is not the question, the question is how bad will the fleecing be.

No it wasn't. He said "place over" Vlade. That means someone Vlade would answer to.

Why do you want to tank so bad?

In 2 years we won't even own our own draft pick and we will be in a tank spiral.

We actually want someone that can build a young viable team ASAP, not someone who will be tanking galore.

Wasn't it the plan to keep adding people around Vlade in the FO anyways?

I think we're all just used to Vivek being shady and awful, so we assume the worst.

I still fail to see where Vlade was in the dark? It says he's been quietly searching for someone to place over Vlade.

Quietly searching doesnt necessarily infer Vlade isn't on board with it. Only that Vivek was not shouting from the rooftops his intentions.

I would be fine with it. Only thing that would worry me is if Hinkie wanted to hire his own coach. Joerger and the staff are the one saving grace this franchise has at the moment. Player development this year has been lightyears better than anything in recent memory. Hinkie hired Brown in Philly and Brown and Joerger are both comparable and well respected so hopefully he would see coaching staff doesnt need to be touched.

A GM is paid to incur criticism over the short term if it means taking the better player in the long term. Comes with the territory. If you can't take the heat....you know the rest! That's what Petrie did when he chose Peja isn't it? He didn't care what mocks or Chad Ford said. Consensus is irrelevant among those not privy to data and review a GM has access to . If a GM is going to pick based on consensus you can automate the process with a software program, push a button and "know" who to pick.

Quietly searching doesn't mean he told Vlade what he was up to either. In fact, I would say it is more likely Vlade is finding out the same time as the rest of us.
