If the Mafools still owned the team...

Looking at the new ownership group squeaking in under the salary cap, I like to imagine what the team would look like should the Kings still be owned by the Mafools to give some perspective. How would the team be different?

1. No Darren Collison... Ray Mac would be our new starting PG.
2. Omri would have been signed off of waivers to get the Kings up to the salary minimum.
3. Rudy Gay, if he opted in, would be traded away in a cost saving move.

My point? The Kings are making moves and spending money in attempts to improve the team... with the Mafools, they were making moves to save money... it's a very different time and, I for one, am pleased as punch that the Kings are spending and moving and talking and trading in attempts, not to save $$, but to win. Feels fantastic... it's like jumping into the Sacramento River after a long hot day in the sun.

doubt rudy would be traded away. they would just let him and the 19m expire and not resigned. they would look for some more bargains like outlaw, salmons and other useless contracts to make the minimum.

that offseason they signed MT to a large contract & Chuckster was to meet some minimum amount. what shocked me was why didn't they just sign large 1 year contracts to meet salary minimums instead of handicapping for several seasons. they could have just been a team that could take in rental contracts + assets to help other teams facilitate trades. but again, this is the mafools who sold the winner in the beer distribution to hang onto a sinking titanic ship in the palms.

This thread should be demolished as it made me sick to think about such a scenario. ;)

Small correction: it's not the salary cap, it's the luxury tax. Two different things with two very differing meanings. Not a big deal perhaps but for those wanting to make sense of all these financial landmarks, we should be clear.

They would have probably traded Cousins for Josh Smith by now in an effort to make the fans hate the team, so that The Kings could be relocated to Virginia Beach.

The Magoofs....Siiiigh. I wonder how their high end tacky cell phone case and bubblegum flavored vodka business ventures are going.

Their incompetence was through the roof. They couldn't win off gambling and beer in America!!! Somewhere they're sitting back in their tacky silk shirts plotting and their grand finale on squandering the old mans fortune that I'm sure they will succeed at.

If the Maloofs still owned this team....we would be in some serious trouble. Not that we weren't with them but that much more ineptitude.

I think because, from my perspective, people are being sooo overly judgey on the Kings offseason moves... you may not like them 100%, but I am willing to go along for the ride to see what happens... no need to get all negative in July.
I think the question was more along the lines of why bring up the previous owners again? You say no need to go all negative, but going negative is the only way to view the three stooges. :)

How is "it's time to move forward" being all negative?

That's a scary thought.

Chris Hansen part owner.
Cousins gone.
Keith Smart still the HC.
Maloofs GMing to save money.

Thank goodness the Maloof saga is over. Go KINGS!

The MaGoofs ran the Kings franchise into the ground. They had already spent daddy's money on the casino and tried to save every dollar they could on the Kings. We would be in a different city, worse than Philadelphia and sucking hind tit in every regards. They were detested by all of the other owners and would be a mess where ever they landed. Good ridence to the MaGoof's.

I bring this up because I feel like people are being so, so negative on the current ownership's moves. I just want help put this offseason, the first full offseason this ownership group has had, in perspective...

I understand that, but the road to hell and good intentions notwithstanding, any thread that starts out with " imagine what the team would look like should the Kings still be owned by the Mafools" is quickly going to sink into the morass of (well-earned) anti-Maloof feelings.
