I’d be all over Naji Marshall if I was Monte. Much improved 3, great defense, and more size.
I thought Naji was a restricted FA but Spotrac shows him as UFA. That certainly makes things interesting and may provide a cautionary tale on how to manage Keon's contract option and his FA rights.

Here is my list for potential trade candidates. I didn't put Luka or Giannis on the list for obvious reasons

1) Lebron- Lakers will probably just fire Ham and try to throw all their remaining picks at some b rate star but if he decided he wanted to stay close to "home" maybe you could convince him and the Lakers its time to move on. I think other teams would have more attractive trade pieces but adding him would give us a chance at contending.
2} Durant- another pipe dream but there is a decent chance they have to trade him by the deadline if something drastic doesn't happen. He is a bit younger but you only have him for 2 years so the risk could be high. (injuries too)
3) BI- The Pelicans have to eventually give a starting job to Murph. Who's spot does he take? Zion as oft injured as he is will be hard to move and he is a generational talent in some ways (one that has not produced like one admittedly)
4) Deni Avdija- appears to be a bit of a favorite around here and is likely ascending plus has one of the best value contracts in the league. What will the Wizards do? Willl they take another wing in this draft? Deni is one of the most realistic targets
5) Reefer Jones- stud defender, former teammate of Keon and a good shooter on a fantastic contract. If the Pels decided to hold on to BI Zion and Murph maybe Herb actually becomes available. My good buddy on the forum would love this, as would I! If I'm the Pels and I have to chose between him and Murph I would probably take Trey because he is more what they need and they can use Dyson Daniels a bit in the Jones role (if he can ever learn to shoot) If we kept Keon in the starting lineup and add Herb we could be a top 5 defense.
6) Julius Randle- depending on what happens with the Knicks he might get swung in a deal at some point. could we be a third team in that situation? big contract and all that but he is a scorer
7) D Hunter- I know @SacTownKid likes him, I haven't really watched him much. Talented and maybe worth it for the right price but can he stay healthy and has he figured anything out? Maybe ill go back and watch some hawks games to get a better feel.

Who else? I decided not to include Grant, Kuzma, DFS etc because we have talked about them a lot plus the Kuzma thing seems dead and Im not giving up 2 picks for Grant anymore, that ship has sailed and had to include Thybulle who we might not need at this point. IF Portland wants to give up Grant its #13 and salary matching or no deal. DFS would be similar for me and even then I'm not sure.
It's not so much that I like Hunter the player, although he's got potential if healthy, it's kind of like LaVine, he's possibly attainable and an upgrade. That's likely all Monte can hope for at this point if he's got Keegan off the block. When you set parameters and limitations on yourself as a GM the path to improving with not a ton of trade pieces or any cap space is identifying potential gold at the scrap sale. I'd put Randle near the top myself.

Double checking the new salary rules and we can use the MLE in trades now, what are some teams that are over the apron that may want to unload using this new tool that we can benefit from?
Is that with multiple players coming back? Or just one? The Kings will have to make sure they have full MLE first which right now if Monk is anywhere near that big payday the Kings are over the luxury tax without dumping salary.

Yeah, he's a UFA. Definitely, he is basically in the same situation that Keon will be in, even though he didn't really breakout until this year, which was the last year of his deal. I think we already know what we have with Keon and still have two years left.

My list based on fit and attainability at this point would be:

1. Julius Randle - is he attainable though? haha
2. Jerami Grant
3. DeAndre Hunter
4. Zach LaVine - might not be big enough to play with Keon and Fox, but he's bigger than the Kings other options Brown has been using a bunch and the all star payoff is still there. If he's cheap asset wise go for it.
5. Kyle Kuzma - still below the other options in my book because he could just end up breaking the offense if he doesn't fill the gaps and just looks for high usage and low efficiency shots.

MLE can be divided so maybe? Also if we lose Monk and fall below the apron apparently we can take back 200% of outgoing salary in trade.

Not gonna check this against Larry Coon's Cap Faq but I trust Pincus knows what he's talking about.

As of July 1, for teams below the apron:

  • Up to $7.25 million in outgoing salary can bring back 200 percent plus $250,000
  • $7,250,001 to $29 million will be padded by a flat $7.5 million
  • Above $29 million will be limited to 125 percent plus $250,000

For MLE level moves that's still pretty huge when working with teams completely hamstrung by being over the aprons.
So that's basically 3 players.

Sasha $6.6 mil
Davion $6.4 mil
Duarte $5.9

and really when you look at the 2nd apron teams they have 4-5 players making tons then MLE and below so there really arent many players in the $10-13 mil range to trade for.

Some of those teams are going to need to move their MLE guys to get under the second apron just to make any moves.

The restrictions on teams over the second apron are insane.

I think this team misses elite shooting. Our shooters were not consistent nor good enough last year.

The only player who shot over 40% on 3s was Keon, but he doesn’t shoot enough to make up for everyone else. Would like us to bring several 3pt specialists to add around Fox and Sabonis.

We need guys to make their wide open 3s. It’s been the biggest contrast between watching the Kings and these current playoffs

The only problem is how many options there would be out there for teams in that position. I actually think it's kind of BS to be honest. Every moment that goes on the less damage we see in the potential of blowing your cap to hell. Typical NBA.

The Kings have a TON of really good shooters. When so much of your 3 point shooting is that inconsistent it's likely something that's going on with those shots, not who is taking them and if it is, it might be the defense directing those shots to those players. The DHO got figured out, the 3's were no longer as open out of the system and when players start getting head checked they'll miss open ones. The Kings are missing players that can knock down 3's when squaring up the defense. The playoffs yet again are showing what you need, players capable of making plays and getting their own look, or at the very least looks out of a simple quick hit pick and roll.

No where near a dynasty - and not close yet to a playoff contender (first walk, then run, Padawan)..
Holy cow, that's a deep dive, lol. Monte tried, Monte failed in his attempts. Now onto the next step. I don't think Monte can afford to wait. If it doesn't work and players like Huerter, Barnes, Duarte, Sasha, Davion, or whoever continue to find themselves below expectations or playing time then that might be a wrap for the current incarnation of this team if the top end is a mid to high 40's win record.

I think we won't really know for 2-3 years what has happened. We're probably just past the part of the game where when the NBA first introduced max contracts a few players fired their agents and demanded (and got) the max. We're now at the fall out stage. Phoenix appears to be the first FAFO squad on deck.

Where things really could get interesting is if the new tv deal is a bust and the cap shrinks. I know some are predicting it but I'm not convinced yet, but if it does and they wind up on Amazon or some streaming service as their primary broadcast partner, look out below.

Another guy I’d consider trading for is Corey Kispert. The Wizards were one of my league pass teams for some reason this year and he really impressed me. He had his best season last year, is only 25 and you would have his rights going into restricted free agency. He competes hard, is an elite shooter and added to his game.

It sure seems like BI is going to get traded. There really aren’t that many fits around the league imo. Ideally they need a floor spacing center or a true point guard. Not a lot of teams with that type of player looking for a trade. I’d be keeping an eye on Trae but that might not fit the budget minded Pels. Could we realistically sneak in this? HB, Kev, #13 (they can take filipowski) the Portland second next year and one more first? It’s a big risk on our part with the injuries and the upcoming contract. That’s a big swing though

But if the Pels want Davion, number 13 and Huerter, I would think about it. I also think he is a “no” from a long term salary cap perspective.
I'm not a fan and I think this is the ceiling on what I would give up. I doubt it gets it done which is fine, I don't like him. Also I don't want to overpay him and then be in cap hell when we re-sign Fox and Keegan in 2 years. I don't see that team contending and will be way above the second apron with all those guys.

Without the injuries and his fit with Zion he would likely be untouchable in a trade. He might not be my favorite player but he is all star caliber. If we aren’t contending with 3 all stars level players + Keegan and Keon we are likely doing something wrong. I’m not going to say I know it would work but I think it would be at least worth exploring. With a team full of unselfish players (almost to a fault) could we afford to get one guy that goes and gets his? Use the mid level on scoring punch and I think we would be in business

I am not a big BI fan. Ball stopper, not a great 3 pt shooter, not efficient or committed to defense.

And maybe this is a deal the Kings get involved in as a 3rd team.
I like BI, but not a fan of his fit with Fox and Sabonis. I’d be interested in getting a guy like Naji Marshall using the (partial?) MLE. Gives the team a much needed dog, plays big, can do a little of everything.

Naji is an interesting target for sure, I do wonder where he fits? If you start him, we are likely too light on offense between him and Keon unless Keegs averages 20 a game and you get 22 or so a game between Ellis/Marshall. If you bring him off the bench I don’t think he would get more minutes than his current situation.

I think a lot would depend on what happens with Monk. If he stays, I see him as the starting SG next to Fox.
