Tankathon in effect? Joerger says 2 vets will rest each game (split)

#32
Atalanta and Orlando are both trying to shop their vets supposedly.

Michael Scotto: Atlanta Hawks are seeking a high second-round draft pick in exchange for either Marco Belinelli or Ersan Ilyasova, league sources told

Rival
executives expect Jeff Weltman, Orlando’s new team president, to aggressively hunt for new homes for the likes of Evan Fournier, Elfrid Payton and Mario Hezonja, given that Nikola Vucevic’s broken finger is likely to preclude dealing the center.

So the tank is on. Question is should we take whatever we can get asap for our vets, or hold on for value. Interesting consideration, may not be able to get anything if we are not aggressive but whatever meager returns we could get by waiting may not be there later.

I say sell now if we can, get something in the hand rather than being cheap & trying to hold on for value.

I'd take Fournier.

I actually thought when they got Vogel in as coach they might turn it around, and they still might. They started this season 6-1 or something similar. They have made some poor trades over the last few seasons as well so it may take some time. The recently fired front office staff even somehow let a whiteboard with various nba players names, some not on the Magic, get leaked to the media. Next to all the names were plans and machinations that should not be seen by anyone outside the front office. Just a mess.
I've said it before. Some of these kids with these outrageous haircuts just need to meet scissors. Look what it did for WCS. ;)

Seriously, there's a time to be all about the coiffure. In the middle of an NBA game isn't one of those times.

I was even cool with Willie's. I like dreads, maybe not the color. But Elfrid's, my own opinion aside, clearly impacts his game. Just wow.

I mostly agree and like the thoughts effort you put in your posts, but it will be so much easier to read those posts if they are not presented as "walls of text".
"Enter" is your friend.
I don't know. I'm guilty of the same sin. I make an effort to cut down my messages into bite-sized pieces that people with short attention spans will read. Because what's worse than writing for micro attention spans is crafting a beautiful and powerful message that no one will read!

In my opinion Randolph & Hill make too much loot to be positive value contracts, but that doesn't mean they are untradeable, just means you have to take bad salary back which is fine if we somehow got a pick or prospect. Just have to be careful it doesn't cripple us next year when we have no pick. So something could be there, just have to find enough value in it.

I think Kosta could return a second or long shot prospect with a salary filler in return.

Temple is overpaid too, so the team seeking him would want to offload some salary but he'd really have to fit a need. Like the above does it justify the possible second round pick or prospect we can get. But I wouldn't mind holding on to Temple either.

Carter you've got to get his permission to move I think, can't disrespect a player with his legacy.

But if we can somehow get a couple of nickles and dimes, even waive some of the return, maybe one of those payoff long term. That's why I say sell now, going to be hard to trade as is, get anything you can.
Call me crazy, but I think KK is worth a very late first rounder. I think any of the serious playoff teams would welcome him with open arms into their backup center position.

Orlando and Atlanta are running some some high octane tanks but I think both would be willing to trade down. Like let’s say we get 4 Orlando gets one offer them 4-Skal-JJ for 1 so they could take Young and we get Doncic

I typed it in a hurry at work on my desktop with a 24" screen, probably 80 or maybe even 120 characters wide.

It didn't look like a "wall of text" on the big screen, but I can see on my phone where it might appear that way, I probably should have broken it into 2 or 3 paragraphs whether there was a natural break or not.

I don't mind a little constructive criticism that makes my posts more readable.

However, I can get a little testy if people start critiquing minor errors in spelling or grammar.

It's a forum, it should be free wheeling, I'm not writing for the New York Times, or The Sacramento Bee, or even the Harlan Daily Enterprise. :D

Joerger should be coming on soon. Expect an interesting interview after the veteran comments. If I'm not too late will try & let you know if he says anything interesting, but should be on at any moment.

We actually have a rule against grammar policing. And, for the record, I will inform people if they violate that rule, provided I see the post. (Use the "report" function.)

I used to go through and break long posts down into paragraphs for easier reading. I actually got lectured by one poster who said it wasn't my job. Go figure. :p

But how would we recognize them if they cut their hair? They‘re all not seven feet tall.

He confirmed that at least 2 out of the 5 vets on any given night will not play and be told in advance, said it was not only his but managements desire and was the best way to go forward. The young guys may need some mental rest every now and then. How he was happy for 40 minutes of good basketball vs OKC and it's better to focus on the good points with the young guys while teaching about the poorer play.

So sounds like he is overall accept-ant to positive on what the organization wants to do. Brought up how this is an excellent opportunity for the younger guys to potentially showcase things for their careers.

So yeah, pretty much what was brought up or thought of before the interview.

Joerger pretty much confirmed again on the radio, 2 or more vets will know in advance if they will be sitting before the game day. Made it clear it was both what he & management thought was the best thing to do for the franchise.

I also want to remind people, many of us use the word tank in a similar manner to play hard & develop. Not everyone who uses the word tank means trying to lose.

The important thing I guess is to get something of value if we can, although I think that's a little optimistic of a return.
I would be looking to deal Kosta to Cleveland, if I were looking to deal him. They will be making moves shortly in my opinion, Kosta is from Canton,Ohio, nice playoff run and possible championship contention for Kosta.

Then Vlade should immediately start talking to Orlando! Get Hezonja for a bag of chips!
If Kings truly want Hezonja, then it would be a dumb move to trade for him.

Since Magic declined his last year, he is a FA and the team that does trade for him cannot offer him more than the value of what QO would have been if Orlando were to pick up his last year and make him a restricted FA. Its the same issue Brooklyn faces with Okafor. Unless of course Kings would want Hezonja to dump salary of one of the vets and see him only as an expiring deal.

I get it, the dude has goofy hair but that doesn't even begin to explain why Orlando would be willing to move him in an effort to reset their rebuild. If I told you there was a 23 year old PG on the market who's a good defender and playmaker, is currently shooting 51% from the floor and 39% from deep (not a small sample size either, 351 and 57 attempts respectively) and consistently puts up above-average rebounding and assist totals you'd expect there to be a lot of interest. His achilles heel has always been shooting but that hasn't been a problem this year. As if to emphasize the point, his last game was 27, 8, and 5 with 9 of 12 shooting and 8 of 9 from the line.

And if you go player by player on that Orlando lineup, individually things look like they're on track for them. Aaron Gordon is having his expected breakout year. Vucevic is still solid in the middle and he's actually added an outsider jumper to his game this year too. Fournier is making $17 million a year now but he's giving you the production you'd expect at that price point and he's only 25. So what's the deal? That looks like a team that's a couple pieces short but not noncompetitive. They have a good coach, they have some good vets on the bench. Why are they losing all their games? It's not all because of Vucevic's injury as they were on a 7 game losing streak before that happened.

This whole thing just sounds like too many cooks are involved in that front office. Maybe someone is still mad about a draft pick from years ago. Maybe Victor Oladipo blowing up in Indiana this year has ruffled some feathers (especially since Serge Ibaka isn't even there anymore). Maybe they finally realized how much they overpaid for Biyombo. I don't think that roster is as bad as their record indicates but there must be something going on chemistry-wise which is sabotaging things.

I think you summed it up nicely in your final paragraph.
