And AV tweets about guns being the problem. What an idiot.

This is fairly common in Texas. Their castle doctrine law is particularly encouraging of shoot first ask questions later and this is not the first semi-famous victim so if Ailene wants to get all self righteous she should take on that.

Feel bad for the kid who is now fatherless though.

The deceased kicked in the front door of the apartment and then was attempting to kick in the bedroom door. Even if it WASN'T the wrong apartment, whomever was in there would have had every right to defend themselves IMHO.

Marc Spears is way out of line saying he "inadvertently entered the wrong apartment."

Wasn't it reported that he kicked down the door of what he thought would be his girlfriend's apartment? Makes you wonder if he was intoxicated during these events, otherwise I don't see a reason to kick a door down of a person you know, unless you fear their life is on the line.

I wasn't defending the deceased or suggesting there was no right to self defense in this instance, just noting that in Texas entirely different sets of rules apply (ie Ailene whining about guns is silly).

Sacramento in play for All Star game next February if NBA dumps Charlotte?
Virtually impossible. We may have a nice shiny new arena but we do not have the requisite hotel accommodations. That's why it's been projected it would be a couple of years.

Unless they really do try that awful sounding plan of bussing people in from wine country hotels.

Of course Sactown is few years away from adequate hotel rooms for NBA All Star weekend. But here's thought. Put all events starting Friday and into Saturday at Oracle Arena in Oakland thus hotel rooms occupied would be mostly around East Bay venue. But play All Star game on Sunday at Sacramento's new Golden One Center. No one would need hotel room in Sac or very few as most attending game would just fly out of Sac or back to hotel in Oakland via shuttle for flight out of there.

Does anyone know how many rooms will be in the multi-purpose building being built next door?

That would entirely defeat most of the purpose of hosting the All Star Weekend from the city's standpoint. They should just wait a year or two until the infrastructure is there.

Yeah, um...no way.

Let the Warriors get their own freaking brand-new arena and then they can host an All-Star Weekend. I cannot imagine anyone in Sacramento being happy about losing all that tourist revenue.

Can only be a net positive; there aren't many broadcast duos as bad as Napear and Reynolds IMO, but they were one of them.
Mike Rice was absolutely my least favorite color commentator in the league. While Jerry isn't fantastic, his meandering ramblings about the good old days are pleasantly mockable (Hey guys, did you know Jerry grew up in the same town as Larry Bird? If not, he or Grant will be sure to tell you at least twice a quarter.).

League Passers who don't care for the Portland homer announcers can rejoice.

A little unsure of how I feel about this one to be honest. Blatantly homerific, but they are beloved by the hometown fans.
though it may be a contentious hire, as far as local rivalries are concerned, I'm very happy about whom the Blazers got as a replacement:

Veteran broadcaster Kevin Calabro, who the Portland Trail Blazers have hired to replace Mike Barrett as their new television play-by-play announcer, knows what you might be thinking: While he may have spent over two decades working for one of the Trail Blazers’ most bitter rivals, those allegiances are long behind him.

Definitely a contentious hire, still better than the Seattle Sounders' play by play situation :) (they hired an ex-Portland player who still identifies as a Timbers fan).

Anybody else curious about the 76ers? Simmons draft workout video looked intriguing. Embiid makes Cousins look small
Ok big if is Embiid's health, but I will catch a few sixers games next season.

The under-reported part of this Ibaka deal is how, barring something unusual happening between now and the start of the season, is that this will be the first time in Brandon Jennings' NBA career that he's played on a team that did not have Ersan Ilyasova on it.

Looks some rumors Thon Maker the Bucks draft choice may be 23 instead of 19.
Those were swirling even before the draft. I don't know how credible they are. If I recall correctly Maker was asked about them in his draft interview coming off the stage, naturally he denied them. But coming from the Sudan, it's the kind of thing that might be difficult to convincingly prove either way.

I guess they have a yearbook picture with him graduating in 2010, also with a picture of him in a classroom with a girl listed in the yearbook next to him when he was a freshman. May be as old as 23.
