KHTK

Thankfully never had the misfortune to hear Grant on radio, unless I seek it out on the website (I don't, unless it' a particularly interesting piece).

Grant is an awful PBP guy. ..
What!! ? Grant is a great PBP guy. I grew up listening to Chick Hearn, Grant is no Chick but he has energy and knows the game.

I have to beg to differ with that. I'm willing to stipulate that Napear may be a better play-by-play guy than I generally give him credit for, but I'm definitely not willing to sit here and let somebody call him 'great.' He's not great. G-Man is great. Napear's aiight. And, he reps for the Kings, which I get counts for extra credit with a lot of Kings Fans, but not with me. In a vacuum, Napear is middle-of-the-road, at best.

I should probably be adult enough to let comments like that alone but, sorry, I guess I'm not.

Napear got lazy on the TV call over the years.
Listen to him - many plays are just yelling the players name, then again after the play is made.
"Cousins gets the ball..... Cousins...... COUSINS!"

When he was on the radio, he'd seldom describe a play like that. IIRC, he'd describe what was actually happening instead of having the video there for the viewer to watch.

G-Man has this great reputation, but I never really can follow the game very well with him on the call - and his curmudeon-ness is starting to overtake him - he is so relentlessly dour now it's hard to enjoy listening anymore.
(Not that I really blame him - watching this trainwreck for as long as he has, he has a right to become dispirited about them)

They're filling in for grant for the next couple of weeks and they are so awesome together.
JRoss actually gets to talk.
I have noticed this. They call themselves the Ross family yet Ross is the one frozen out. He really only gets to talk when they ask him a direct question. Corey aka Mike D is such a damn hick!

I tried listening to a couple of episodes of them filling in for Napear on KHTK's archives, because I do love Kayte, and she and Ross have pretty good chemistry. It was... it would be inaccurate to say that it was "bad," but I didn't get anything out of it.

I would take it as a kindness if someone would let me know when they start talking about the Kings on the "Home of the Kings" again.

As we get towards camp. Then it will get crazy.

I never speak for other shows, but in our defense (mornings), we talk about any and all Kings news in the offseason. Of course, for every one person that digs it, there's about 5 that pop up saying "dude it's the offseason, give it a rest, plenty of Kings talk 8 months a year".

I understand both sides. Can't please anyone.

So I'd tune in around October 1. Till then, it's baseball and NFL heavy, which I know you love.

So, it's October 6, and I've been listening to KHTK online since 1000 (since I start work at 1000, and it's not like I can listen to KHTK in my car). I'm starting to feel like Dave pulled an okey-doke on me.

I'm not sure I understand. All I can tell you is that I'm on the air from 6-9am, and I think anyone listening would tell you we spent a TON of time on the game, as we did the day before previewing it.

Tomorrow we will talk about the Boogie MVP article, lineups, and preview the game vs Phoenix.

We also have at least one player (can't say who yet) committed to doing a weekly show in the AM.

Don't take me not talking about the other two shows as throwing them under the bus, I just try to not get into convos about other shows/hosts because it's not fair to them.

I'm curious though, what exactly did you mean by me pulling an "okey-doke"?

I was being semi-facetious.

I don't have any practical means of listening to your show between 0900-1000 (or 0600-0700, Sacramento time), so I can't speak to how much you did or didn't talk about the game before 1000, but it didn't seem to me as though you spent much time talking about the Kings between 1005-1200 (sorry, 0705-0900 PT). I think that the "Truth or Trash" segment was the longest I heard you talking about the Kings in the two hours I had your show on.

So, that's where the "okey-doke" comment came from: you said it would be safe to tune back in after Oct 1, and I felt like all I got to listen to was two hours of football. It was (mostly) in jest. :p

Grant is going off the reservation now, into crazy-land with his spastic obsessive negativity about Cousins and the Kings.

On his show today, not only was he actually 30 minutes late for his own damn show (had to get Nate to cover), but he actually said these statements:
* The Kings lack of defense is solely on the players - the coach is not responsible for any deficiencies the Kings have on defense.

* There is no difference between a 29-win Kings team and a 7-win Kings team.
Let me repeat that, because he did, repeatedly.
He actually believes that there would be no difference in Sacramento or with the team if they went 7 wins and 75 losses in the season.

That, KF's, is a borderline-insane announcer we've got who's spewing his own agenda all over the basketball nation for over 30 hours every damn week.

He complains endlessly how bad the hyper-active media has gotten, he hasn't looked at himself in the mirror:
The Kings are not THAT far from winning, here - the only thing Grant is going to cause is hysteria when he is constantly panicking the fanbase with his knee-jerk absurdly-negative reactions.

He needs to be called out for the damage he is doing to the Kings' reputation across the league.
If the Kings had SOME reporters/announcers explaining their side of things, maybe everyone wouldn't be so damned negative towards everything involved with the organization.
He is not blameless in this social dynamic.

You must be one of the many callers that he's "told off" on air :D

Just turn the channel. Leave him alone with his show. Use the mute button for games. LOL
It's not just his show now. He's carrying it over into the game broadcasts. And that is not right.

I don't think Napear should get a pass on his comments. Just one example? The replay screen is set up within ear shot of Grant and Jerry. How many times have you heard Napear pontificate about a call going against the Kings while the play is being reviewed? Makes it pretty easy for the officials when they can hear Napear saying the call should go against the Kings.

"So, was that ball off the Kings?"

"Gee, I don't know but Napear says he thinks it was so we're probably okay with making the call that way."

or

"Did you see Cousins flagrant foul that guy?"

"Nope, but Napear says he did so let's just go with it."

Grant mentioned Cousins' elbow to Horford numerous times during the Atlanta broadcast. When the league reviewed it, I'm almost positive his commentary played a part in Cousins getting suspended.

If people are going to point fingers at Cousins for all his bad acts, I'd like to see some acknowledgement of how often Napear has weighed in on things and tipped the scales against the Kings.

And yes, it's just my opinion.

I strenuously disagree.

The time for turning the other cheek while he sets fire to the entire Kings fanbase and continues to attempt to mobilize them against Cousins and manufacture a trade demand IS OVER.

He needs to be called to the carpet and held accountable for his years-long manipulation of the narrative for his own petty junior-high-school mentality (i.e. wahh wahh Cousins is a big giant meanie thug who refuses to come on my show and give me ratings so I'll just keep abusing my privileged mouthpiece position and poison the fanbase against him.")

I'm way ****ing tired of him pulling this crap, and it's time for these keyboard warriors to stop just talking and complaining about it and do something good for once and en masse get him muzzled.

"Keyboard warriors?" That's rich. Your opinion notwithstanding, you're no less a "keyboard warrior" than the rest of us.

There's exactly one thing, and one thing only, that's going to shut Napear up: hit him in the wallet. Unless you're going to personally mobilize against his show's sponsors, you're as full of sound and fury as everybody else.

I could be wrong, but I thought he was kind of including himself in the keyboard warrior scenario? o_O

It seems to me that the thin line that used to exist between Grant Napear, Jim Rome wannabe, and Grant Napear, play-by-play commentator, has completely disappeared. I think I get more irritated at his gametime comments than his show (but, to be honest, I avoid his show like the plague). And there's the rub - trying to hit him through his sponsors on the game broadcasts would just hurt the Kings.

Or am I possibly completely missing the point?

EDIT: Yeah, I missed the point of his post...and your response. My points still stand, though. :p

They sit across the court from the officials replays at home games. Unless its a national broadcast game.
