Koufos to the Kings!

I still think this franchise has a way to go before isay they are not a joke...but I like these moves.
-a 1 year flyer on a guy who could turn it around and be a top 5 pg. The payoff is huge and if he burns out its only a 1 year deal
-a legit shooter
-a nice big to back up the 4/5
-a mobile big who can defend multiple positions

We have the best defensive frontcourt in the league right now... and it's not even close. And that's before even counting Moreland and what he might turn into, or adding a Reggie Evans, who I advocate for as that 4th big, but having a project like Moreland in the pipeline is exactly the kind of guy you want there. Would not mind at all if he took over 4th big minutes. Still want Evans for spot minutes and leadership.

Koufos will start, but not like it matters. He and WCS will get 20-25 MPG

Thinking the same.. 96 "big man" minutes to go around. Got to figure there is more than enough minutes for three players, and maybe a fourth to get 10 or so minutes a game.

So much for small ball nonsense - or we hope!
The big problem with small ball is that teams often do it while neglecting post defense. We can still go small on occasion, without giving up much in post D/rim protector guys. Just trot out 2 PGs and McLemore at the three, Gay at 4, WCS at the 5. That is an excellent small ball defending line up. And not lacking in shooting and running.

How is his defense? Can someone break him down for me? It's been a while since I had did any research on Koufos.

Koufos facts
Memphis D on/off- 98.3/106 -7.7
9th C, 20th overall in DRPM- 3.30
46.9 OPP FG% at rim. Better than Marc, DJ, Lopez, Tyson

Basically, really freaking good.

And I get a cheap plug for followers on twitter ;)

Roster looks so much better, heaven forbid Boogie rolls an ankle or something, but with the signings we now have enough talent to compete if he misses a week or two. We just need another wing, and a couple of cheap vets like Andre and Reggie or Acy.

I thought Moreland was our fourth big? Cuz, Koufos, WCS, Moreland. Also Gay can play PF in a pinch (which looks to be what Vlade will do).

Our team just got about 25 wins better this offseason.
I really don't see a need for another big man...I'm willing to give Moreland a chance here. I mean he is signed for the next two years so might as well see what he can do out there, when healthy of course.

WCS in college (yes, I know it's just NCAA) at times guarded out on perimeter with his incredible quickness and defensive mind set. If we go small with him on the floor it might be called small but who cares!

So with the trade we upgraded Nik to what he could be in his prime, upgraded JT who was strictly a post defender specialist to Koufos who is a good post defender, team defender, rim protector and tough as nails to boot. Signed Rondo who could end up being our best PG since Bibby, and dumped the corpse of Carl Landry in Philly(no offense Carl).

Anyone know how much money we have left? Ziller said Omri wants more than we are offering.

Man nobody wants to come here this sucks :p

Honestly, I think this is where I predicted that Plan B may in fact work out better than Plan A. I wish Wes Matthews the best but I won't cry if it takes him a few seasons to return to form.

Our roster is looking like the anti-Warriors, and I couldn't be happier. Thing is, we still have shooting!

We are going to be the nasty, tough, get that weak stuff outta here type of contrast to the Ws. Could become a great norcal rivalry for years to come. Everyone we've signed this offseason has at least 5 years of good productivity left. We are pretty damn well built for the next 5-7 years.

Yeah we're going to have some serious passion on the court this year. I reeeeaaalllyyy hope we don't let Casspi go elsewhere, I hear he's asking for more than we might have been planning on giving him but we'll wait and see I guess. I think Moreland is fine as our 4th big until he shows us that he's not ready, I'd like to keep Evans just for his rebounding and locker room/bench presence.
