A lot of people around here were very down on Williams. I don't think he really lived down to the expectations, but he's not an amazing package all told.
He's very athletic and you'll get some awesome lob dunks with him, and he was beginning to get a bit of confidence in his three pointer. Offensively he'll blow up one game out of 8 to 10 and make you think that he's the next great thing, but then he'll have four or five mediocre games and one or two really bad games in between.
Inconsistency and occasional lack of effort are the real downsides here. He doesn't put out good effort on the defensive boards because he's too concerned about getting a run out, and his defense is really variable. He had some excellent defensive games for us while I was assigned to watch him in our grades threads but despite this the majority of fans on the site still complained about his defense in those games - leading me to believe that the popular wisdom that he's a terrible defender is probably a bit overstated. But all in all, he's not a lockdown guy, more of a guy who can fit into defensive schemes, give some good help, etc. - when he really wants to.
He was the #2 pick in his draft, and it's not like it was a dumb pick, it's just that he seemingly won't put in the effort to put it all together.
