any video gamers on these forums?
You will have to be more specific. Of course there are. But are you talking PC, console, FPS, sports, etc., etc.?

Personally I used to play a lot but don't have time any more. PC only. FPS games (pretty much every version of: Doom, Quake, Unreal, Wolfenstein, Bio-Shock, Half-Life, Portal, etc.), Command & Conquer, and Descent were some favorites. Most recently the Diablo series - I have four characters I have played up to Torment. Haven't played much in the past few months though.

But not multiplayer/online - I live in the country with relatively lousy internet. All my playing is single player or multi-player against the computer.

well when I mentioned video games, I didn't know I had to be specific. It applies to everything from PS3, PS4, XBOX, PC, Nintendo, etc.

anyway...I am looking to get into playing my PS3 again...what are some good games out there from my fellow Sony followers?

Uncharted Series and The Last of Us are my personal favorites from PS3.

I have PS3, XBbox360 and my personal favorite I call the RexBox 1080p :) It's an 17in HP Envy Laptop 1080p discrete graphics etc. configured for gaming. I use the XBox 360 controller (using Microsoft wireless adapter) to play games (Need for Speed, COD, NBA 2K) on it anywhere there is power :)

I havent' been gaming lately with only the latest game i have as NBA 2K15 on PS3. My kids now play on my systems mostly minecraft and call of duty stuff. This is the same reason I have not upgrade to next gen consoles (PS4, XBox One).

Thanks for putting it far more tactfully than I would have. I think that, if we learned anything from this Gamergate business, it's that some people take the definition of "video gamer" way way more seriously than other people do. I know some people who would consider themselves a "gamer" because they're addicted to whatever app is hot on the streets. At any rate, it's important in these kinds of conversations to make sure that everybody involved is using the same definitions of words.

I got my son Evolve for his birthday, if that helps; the last new game I bought for myself was Civilization 4. If I still play that on a regular basis, but no other games, do I qualify as a "gamer"?

I read online somewhere that the Dark Souls II game is one of the most frustrating and challenging games to beat.

I bough an Oculus Rift DK2 which is a Virtual Reality headset!
https://www.oculus.com/rift/

Such an amazing piece of technology! I really cant describe how awesome it is to be totally immersed in a PC game! I bought Elite Dangerous which is a space fighter game and it is awesome!

The final consumer product should be released later this year or 2016. HTC and Valve along with Sony are creating VR headsets as well!

I'd be happy to answer any questions regarding VR, I have been studying in since the original rift DK1 was released a few years ago.

Also, VR has many uses outside of PC game. Watching movies on an IMAX screen or completely surrounded by the movie itself (once those are released) or watching an NBA game courtside from home!

I've read positive reviews about The Last of Us....it's a zombie game, right?
Yeah, but instead of a virus or other typical zombie story line, the main culprit is a a fungus spreads and takes control of people turning them into monsters. Also the game is really pretty and the storyline is among the best I've ever played with movie-esque cut scenes.

what would you say is the level of difficulty for that game?

I think there are different difficulties but the normal difficulty is perfect. At its hardest parts you might die 2 or 3 times trying to do something but for the most part you'll survive. The story is perfectly paced so you just want to keep going. I almost felt like i was watching a tv series like the walking dead and every night i played was a new episode because so much happens.

That sounds like an enticing game to play, I will most definitely look into it. Are you a fan of the Metal Gear Solid series? I haven't played one in quite some time...anyone here play Metal Gear Solid 4 for the PS3?

I've been game collecting for about 15 years now... Thrift stores, flea markets, you name it. I'd value my NES collection alone at around $1,200 easily.

My son and I play Super Mario 3D World, Mario Kart, Kirby and the Rainbow Curse and Disney Infinity on the Wii U.

In terms of the PS4, The Last of Us Remastered is a one of the greatest games I've ever played (definitely recommend picking up PS Gold Wireless headset, really enhances the experience). I also really enjoyed Infamous. Best part is it's dirt cheap!
Currently playing Far Cry 4 and MLB The Show 15.

How much did you pay for it? They look so awesome on youtube videos..lol. I hope in 5 years they'll be able to incorporate this technology into some type of first shooter game. I wouldn't mind paying something along the lines of 200 with this. If I understand correctly, right now there aren't many games running it?

I paid $300 for it, its not a bad piece of technology by any means. The newer CV1 will blow it out of the water when its released! The consumer version will probably be around $250-350 but its going to include the VR headset, built in high quality mic, 3D sound headphones built in, and an input device like a controller made for VR. Not bad when you add it all up.

I can say from experience that its mind blowing playing some of these games in VR. Just looking around and finally understanding the size and scope....vastness of you surrounding and to to be 100% IN THE GAME....its unreal

AAA content will be released by the time the consumer version 1 is released. Currently many games have been modded i guess you could say to work in VR but its a mixed bag of some great some bad.
FPS games that are made specifically for VR will come out very soon but currently ARMA 3 has been ported to work with the oculus rift.
