The problem is when you add a dose of realism... the options on that poll shrink substantially.
Ain't that the truth. Thibs and JVG have other options. Karl has advertised himself and would take the job if offered. Not sure where McMillan would stand.

All of that probably would not even matter because other than Karl, neither of those fit gerbils and idiots vision of this team so it likely to be someone who is a puke job. I still think our new coach will be Chris Mullin. That's of course unless Cuz doesn't snap his neck in half before the end of the season.

The only potential saving grace is of fans keep on voicing their disgust on the moves made by the front office and Vivek suddenly realizes that "Mully and Pete" do not know what it takes and he replaces them with people with a proven track record of success in the NBA.

Billy Martin managed the Yankees 5 separate times.

Different sport, but still. That's just worth mentioning I think.
IMO a firing of Mullin and Pete while a remote possibility is still possible. This was a classic power struggle. If Vivek realizes that his first hire was his best and chooses Malone along with a new GM. A GM who understands talent and how to play to your strengths would be best. Certainly better than having a preconceived notion on how to run a Team and then interfering with the Head Coach.

I read here somewhere that Vivek was advised by someone to hire Malone. This was prior to hiring Pete and Mully. If he goes back to that adviser and gets suggestions for a new GM it could be possible to bring back Malone.

As Chubbs has pointed out Steinbrenner brought back Billy Martin:

I would not mind seeing the front office bring Rick Adelman back. I believe he retired from coaching last year and is now just a consultant for the T-Wolves. It seems like his style of play is exactly what they are looking for.

Sadly, Thibs has the least likely chance of landing here. He's basically a rich man's Malone.

Also, any coach that has any type of esteem within the NBA isn't gonna want to coach while listening to Vivek continually whisper ridiculous ideas to him and then hold that crp over his head. Coaches pay attention to how previous coaches were treated. Those that will come here are the ones that need the opportunity or promotion. Those are the ones we don't really want.

I've never seen an owner in any pro sport waste so much good juju so quickly. If you look at it from afar, it's actually incredibly hard to ruin a train that was pretty much driving itself towards relevance, all star berths, an identity, and a new arena. Vivek pretty much took a dump in the honeymoon bed. Kings are toxic again, yay!
Yes that is the exact analogy I would make as well. Took a dump and fell back in it....

Yeah I'd take him and a non-castrated Petrie having to deal with Maloofery games back myself.

I wonder if Rick has any desire though?

I doubt it. Rumor was he refused to take any calls from the Maloofs after they talked to Jackson and gave him the run around, not the type of guy to put much into ownerships thoughts...He basically said what are they gonna do fire me and kept to himself.

Fwiw, Carmicheal Dave, tweeted out he thought there was a 15% chance that Mullin would be the coach and he mentioned Alvin Gentry as the front runner. I don't believe he has the inside scoop on these topics though and it's just his opinion, although he has more inside info than most if not all of us.

Agreed. Not quite sure what is so exciting about him as a coach?
Pace.

Not kidding.

Why put up with Karl's salary demands and insistence on coaching his own team when you can find a run n gun coach at half the price and without the guts to say no? He seems already wary of our front office though from the summer's events. Good for him AND good for us.

i wouldn't mind if we had adelman in a pete carril type position for coach malone. i think he would've helped malone tremendously on the offensive side of the ball creatively.

I mean Thibs if we really had a shot at him. But it's really hard to say no to Karl who actively wants to be here.
Actively wanted to be here. That window may have closed. I haven't heard anything recently suggest that either the front office is interested or that Karl wasn't pissed of by the non-response earlier.

The most notorious PACE coach is still available and I can bet the FO has him on their short list.

Mike D'Antoni is my dark horse if Mully is not hired.

He would fit perfectly into PDA and Vivek's image of a "Jazz Director" coach and he had great success in Phoenix, he even made the playoffs with the Knicks and a declining Lakers team.

It wouldn't surprise me if he emerges as the favorite to be the next head coach.

That's a very interesting and astute prediction. I totally forgot about mr Toni. I wouldn't mind him here but our defense would severely suffer because of it. But he has a good track record and our team would be fun to watch.

More than it has now? Unpossible.

NBA 3.0 = FO makes the on court decisions to include everything. The FO has ruined our team for the time being. Everyone who can be fired should be fired. Corbin should be fired for not having a pair. The Kings are the experiment of an arrogant basketball idiot.

D'Antoni? Did anyone watch what he did to Gasol two years ago? Seriously?! Gasol is playing AMAZING basketball, and people were thinking he should RETIRE when he was with D'Antoni. He would crush Cousins. No thank you.
Cousins is still holding his own in the PACE offense now. He is still putting up incredible numbers with Corbin.

What is ruining the Kings right now is not Cousins production in a PACE offense, it's the rest of the teams performance and every ones lack of defense.

If we are going down the path of PACE as the FO mandate, I would rather have a coach who had great success recently doing it, Mike D'Antoni, than a Chris Mullin (unknown, possible Nelly ball clone) or Alvin Gentry (re-tread).

How about we just get rid of the front office and do things right?

we NEED to get our hands in that indian market. that's should be objective #1. our coaching search begins and ends with vivek. he has experience winning championship.

I think it was not ever explicitly pointed out last night (I watched late so I didn't follow the whole game thread so maybe somebody said it there) but we played the Raptors tight up to the 7-minute mark of the third. At that point it was 66-66 when Cousins went out with his fourth foul. Over the next 6 minutes (and 5 seconds) we were outscored 24-6. 24-6 in SIX minutes. That's a half of a quarter at a pace for 48 points in the quarter. Basically, Cuz went out and our guys just plain quit. And that's why we lost. Outside of that 6-minute stretch we played the Raptors even for the remainder of the game.

So what's the problem? Coaching? Players? We've got to find a coach who can motivate our players to actually play hard. Corbin ain't that guy. And we've got to find the guys who are out there on the court and simply don't care to give an effort and ship them off. I don't care what their name is, give 100% on the court or go to another city. But I don't see this junk fixing itself until those two things happen. Players who are going to actually play, and a coach they'll play for. Bottom line, we don't have that right now, and we should settle for nothing less.

Popcornmachine has it even worse, 26-6! http://www.popcornmachine.net/gf?date=20150128&game=SACTOR

Edit: wait, that looks like it counts 2 points when Cousins was still on the floor. Carry on!
Yeah, I'm not 100% sure how to parse the Popcornmachine graph, but I assume that the two points in question was the bucket that was a part of the and-1 that was Cousins' fourth foul. To be fair, you might count the free throw against him as well, because even though he hit the bench before the FT was attempted, it was a continuation of a play where he was on the floor. So maybe 23-6 is more fair to our "lineup" in the latter part of the third quarter!

Thing is:

1) is it a quit thing? or a talent thing? Our guys haven't been able to get over the hump without Boogie for 2 years now. I suspect some of both.

2) this exact same group of players WAS fighting for a different coach this very season. Now the talent question comes in again, because while they were fighting, they were still failing. And our bench has been utterly incompetent all year. But they scrapped. The one single element that has changed was the disastrous coaching move. We know these very same players can/will fight for a different leader.

Actually I shouldn't say exact same group of players, because I remain deeply suspicious that many of our scrappy roleplayers have been intentionally minimized in favor of flashier personnel. When we were winning guys like Omri, Landry, Reggie were all parts of the mix. Now we're running 3-guard lineups with DWill occasioanlly starting at PF.

True and not true with Cousins.

You know what this resmebles now? Keith ****ing Smart.

Let me explain: we've brought Boogie out of the paint. Allows more lanes for all those fun exciting guards to slash to the rim just like Golden State does! Woot! Boogie has kept up a tremendous raw production pace. But his efficiency has plummeted. he's constantly having to create everything on his own form up top. When he does post, he's quickly doubled, and nobody on our team moves. End result is this month by month:

Nov: 24.2pts 13.0reb 2.6ast .606TS% 3.6TO
Dec: 25.2pts 11.3reb 3.5ast .582TS% 4.0TO
Jan: 23.5pts 12.5reb 4.1ast .519TS% 5.6TO

He's having to create more and more and more, facing and further out, and the efficiency has plummeted (maybe not quite so far as the above were it not for that Ibaka game, where Cuz was going inside, but still).

And no, if Mike D';Antoni were ever hired I'd greet him at the airport with a baseball bat. What a disaster that would be.

Tom Thibodeau, but his style is totally against Vivek's. Hopefully TT's relationship with the Bulls is really that bad and someone knocks some sense into Vivek and get him to hire TT right away if he is available. Cousins has a great relationship with Tom Thibodeau from Team USA. I can see them forming a good relationship on the Kings as well.
