If Serena Williams isn't the best female athlete on earth right now, I don't know who is.

EDIT: Nothwithstanding the struggle she's having at Wimbledon as we speak, so to speak.

Rhonda needs more legitimate competition. Will she fight Cyborg? Probably inevitable at some point.

Anybody here watch Baseball in the summertime while NBA is taking a break? I've tried and I've kept trying but I just can't finish watching the games, yet....something keeps drawing me back to the MLB, for whatever reason to keep trying again.

Nope. There's no annual sport, or sporting event, that I watch besides basketball: in the winter, I watch men's basketball and, in the summer, I watch women's basketball.

Who on here watches the Barclay's League or Spanish Primera Soccer? I've been pondering investing in the Barclay's League however with the price of NBA it's a bit too high.

Anybody watching the Barcelona vs Real Madrid game? I can't imagine the crazy ratings this one is going to receive . Awesome game so far at the half. Also on NBC they are showing a Barclays Premier League game :D.

Real Madrid took over that second half, disappointing. It seems that Saturday and Sunday mornings NBC will be airing these Barclay's Premier League games...I need to find a site or hope a torrent is out there where they show the replays of the games. I love that they are showing these games though, can't be mad at that.

I was more interested in MLS play yesterday but when I had checked and saw Barca was winning so not thrilled to hear that. Although for me this comes down to Messi seeming to be a likable guy and C. Ronaldo being a dbag.

I don't care about either of them to be honest. I am a fan of Benzema though...he just goes out there and plays hard full go. MLS I just can't get into right now...

Well, I had my team begging for a playoff spot, our greatest rival playing for the Supporter's Shield and our second rival 1pt up on us for that final spot.

Played out the worst way possible.

But the ultimate slap in the face was Tuesday night we rested key players in our final Champions League leg where we were 3-0-0 and +11, lost 3-1 and failed to advance on away goals, all because our stupid owner had too much pride to concede the MLS Playoffs were a long shot and focus on the tournament we could contend in.

So I'm probably done with MLS for the year. Will see if I can get Bundesliga reliably or just watch Liverpool.

What's this I hear that Fox Sports bought Bundesliga's television rights for the 2015-2016 season? I suppose we got see all the games now. I watch a lot of the replays they play and I just need to find a place where I can watch replays from the Barclay's League games which they only televise on the weekends in the mornings.

Oh and to make a crap season even worse, Diego Valeri has a torn ACL.

Maybe I should just stick to American football for the time being.

I didn't understand what the fuss was all about at first. And then I googled "Lauren Hill." And then I watched the clip again ... and cried.

So, the "Stockton Thunder" will be no more soon? Calgary Flames are moving their AAA team to Stockton so they will be an AHL team instead of a ECHL affiliate and the team will be holding a naming contest. Looking forward to more hockey in Stockton, and apparently of higher quality!

http://www.stocktonthunder.com/2015/01/29/flames-unveil-plans-for-future-in-stockton/

From the article:

The Stockton Thunder proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s New York Islanders and the AHL’s Bridgeport Sound Tigers, held a press conference to announce today that the Calgary Flames of the NHL have officially purchased the Stockton Thunder franchise and will be moving their AHL franchise to Stockton beginning in the 2015-16 hockey season.

“To use a baseball analogy, this will be our top ‘Triple-A’ affiliate,” Treliving said. “This move is significant to our development of a Stanley Cup champion in Calgary for multiple reasons. First off, Stockton Arena is a world-class facility that is the envy of not just ECHL teams, but AHL teams as well. Having our players play at a top-notch facility was paramount. Also, the fans pack the house here every night; we look forward to that same support for the new team.”

The Flames are not the only NHL team bringing their AHL affiliate west, as the Anaheim Ducks, Edmonton Oilers, Los Angeles Kings, and San Jose Sharks will round out the five-team Pacific Division in the AHL with teams in San Diego, Bakersfield, Ontario, and San Jose respectively.

Why do they need to rename the team?
I think because they are moving a team from another city? Not sure, but it seems more and more like when teams move they tend to leave the names behind with the "old" city and get new ones at the new location. They also said that they haven't ruled out any names so far, so maybe they could keep "Thunder"? Or they might want to change it to sell more merchandise....

It's confusing because it says the bought the Thunder, but are "moving their team". Anyways, it seems like the Thunder is a good brand? So it seems odd to replace it if they own the name. Just like the Rivercats won't be changing names with affiliations.

Maybe it will be a good thing. I don't know.

Agreed, I was also kind of confused with exactly what will take place. I guess we will see after this season winds down. Not a big fan of any particular players on the Thunder, I just enjoy going to see inexpensive hockey on occasion. So the switch to different players, etc., is no big deal for me. Kinda hope they keep the same name though.

We have junior hockey in Portland so the players cycle every 2-3 years anyways. I can't imagine ECHL/AHL is a whole lot different, if someone is good they get called up, right? Maybe there are some lifers who are fan faves without next level skill? At least with juniors there's a hope they'll get drafted by a team I actually like.
