After 14 months without a permanent leader and with the protracted search under scrutiny from powerful player agents, the National Basketball Players Association announced Monday that Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson will take over the lead in the search for a new executive director.

Johnson, who played in the NBA for 12 years, successfully led a campaign last year to get funding for a new arena and put together an ownership group to fend off a strong bid to move the Kings to Seattle. That success convinced current NBPA president Chris Paul to ask Johnson to take over this thorny issue and the expectation now is a new executive director will be in place by the start of next season...

One of my biggest pet peeves is someone who starts a thread with a quote and the word "discuss".

Just don't pick somebody that's immediately going to drive the league into another lockout KJ.

Actually, that might be the best sign here -- KJ obviously has had strong relations with management/the league, so he's unlikely to pick some firebrand who can't get along with the other side. He's more likely to pick somebody who can find some common ground, so maybe it will all work out for the best.

It is an interesting choice for this reason. All along I've thought KJ was Stern's boy. Even before being elected. Basically my theory was that when the league has long been trying to get an arena here, and after a certain round of failures back around like 2005/6, they (Stern) helped get KJ elected to do so. Occam's razor. I don't mean to imply some sinister conspiracy... I mean clearly KJ had mayoral/political aspirations for a while... but you gotta think he and Stern brainstormed about all this as far back as the early/mid 2000s.

In any case, this is a real power move for KJ himself. You get the aura not only of leading but of being a "Kingmaker" so to speak. Pun very much intended.

You posted an article with a one word comment. I responded to the comment. :p
And then, you quoted my response to your comment, which itself was in response to my original post

What happened next was that I then quoted that response, and as of now, I am currently responding to it.

To recap, what's happening here, overall, in a general sense, is that you and I are posting things, and responding to each others' posts and making comments.

Please feel free to comment.

So is this what message boards are all about? What a novel concept.
