Why tf sign Grant when you can just draft Prosper
Come on, you cant think any rookie not in the lottery will actually be better in the next year than grant is now (possible that no one in the draft could be as good next year as grant is now). You also hold bird rights to barnes and can still bring him back over your cap, and the actual luxury tax threshold is far higher than the soft cap so you would still be in reasonable financial position by adding a a big ticket player and bringing Barnes/lyles. I think this will be positioning Sac town for a swing for the fences big move in free agency and trade market.

Grant isn't the defender O-Max will be imo.

I'm thinking long term as well

Grant has been getting better every year. Siakam would be a huge get. Not sure about Middletown, seems to be getting older. I think we need athleticism at the 4, to help cover Sabonas and Keegan.

Because Prosper wasn't that great in college. Not to mention he moved schools, so you might have to find a scheme that works for him (which might not be our scheme). Not saying it's a huge red flag or anything, but usually when you see someone moving schools their stats get much better. So what if our offense is different than the one Prosper can play well in?

I don't like the idea of having a 30m+ Grant in the next 4 years honestly, and you lock yourself up with a Fox-Sabonis-Grant core. If it is Kuzma, jeez..
I go back and forth on Grant. He does things I like … but he’s also a power forward who averages 4 rebounds. And we just lost a series in large part because we couldn’t grab a rebound.

Im also not high on Middleton given what he did last year, but, you cant discount his injuries which time may also have healed. Im hoping that Kings go for OG/Siakam/Grant/Middleton in that order and still find the money to bring back HB and possibly Lyles (though with Sasha possibly coming, im not sure where that leaves lyles).

He wont be Jeremi Grant next year or possibly even in 2 years... This team is in win now mode. They just opened up HUGE cap space without giving up any pieces that were a part of last years run. That looks like a big setup to me.
This team needs to be thinking short and long term imo.

Why do we need to win NOW and why is that even realistic?

And when I say win now I mean win a championship.

We just made the 1st round we should just be progressing as a unit

If your worried about defense, there are several wing players available that are better defenders than Prosper IMO. Don't know if all of them will be there at 38, but some will. BTW, defense was the calling card that got Grant playing time in the NBA. It kept him on the court until his offense came around.

FWIW, I love the move. The harder part lies ahead – landing a player w/that additional cap space who’ll help the Kings take another big step forward, but that’s what they need. They took a huge step forward last year but, IMO, they are not a championship contending team. Maybe Keegs develops into that next-step-third-star guy, but why rely on that hope alone?

What did they give up? A beloved but ill-fitting piece in Richaun who got no run and a rookie at #24 who’d be unlikely to help any time soon, if ever. Monte’s looking to take another bold step toward real championship contender status, has created some space to do that without giving up any assets that would have helped on the floor – and I, for one, am here for it.

(I will say, though, that Jerami Grant doesn’t do it for me, but we’ll see what we see!)

Just curious….what has Kuzma done to earn the reputation as a knucklehead in your mind?
His demeanor and the way he plays the game, among other things I won’t get into.

He’s a drastically overrated player that doesn’t help the KINGS defensively. He’s not a winning basketball player.

I get that you are looking long term, but the window for Fox/Ox led Kings is now... You need to surround them with talent that is ready ti compete for the next 2-3 years. I dont see this team getti g better beyond that time frame without major changes and i suspect the game will pass this team by without a major upgrade now... The moment is now for the swing.

Absolutely rant Sabonis extended, but really hope they upgrade the wing with that $, bring over Sasha, get a backup big and resign Lyles
So if I am understanding they freed up around $30mil and they still have a $20+ cap hold with HB that frees up that $?

Their window is a lot longer than 2-3 years. More like 5-7 years.

And I understand opening up cap space that's fine but for who?

Who is this big ticket free agent that we want?
Could possibly use the money in a trade, as I understand it. Until I see differently, I'm thinking big - Siakam, Anunoby. I find players like Kuzma, Cam Johnson and Grant to be pretty meh, although Cam Johnson was a nice player before he got injured.

Me too I'm not really high on any of these free agents except maybe Josh Hart but I don't think he's leaving under any circumstances.

At the same time wtf do I know maybe there's something creative that I don't know about that can be done with that cap space.

Monte does deserve at least some benefit of doubt right now we were trash and he really helped turn the team around.
