What is the lineup of this team in 2 years?

I suspect the following players will be gone: Hill, Randolph, Carter, Koufas, Temple, Malachi, Mason, Papa

I think the only players that will be remaining are Jackson, Bogdan, Fox, Skal and Giles. Most everyone else will be gone.
I am really hoping Deandre Ayton is available for the Kings in next years draft.

Ayton reminds me of David Robinson. Team his up with a healthy Giles.

If Hield does not take the next step, I don't think he will be here either.

If the past is the best predictor of the future, it is anyone's guess. The Kings have had as much turnover as anyone in the NBA the last few years.
It would help a lot if Vlade and his team can decide on a strategy for building a team instead of just looking for the "best available talent."
I do not miss Cousins attitiude, except that he played with more passion than all of the current Kings' big men put together.
It will be intersting to see where the Kings' leadership comes from. Probably the older guys. None of the point guards seem to really have the ability to break down defenses and dish.

KingsSelecao, why don't you think Mason will be around? So far he looks like a solid backup PG.

ppine, I think the way they're doing the rebuild is correct. Have to start with gathering up the "best available talent" and once you vet that out, you can start building a team around them. We're still just really early in the process because we don't even know who is going to turn out yet.

It's still very early but there are some clear signs that certain guys aren't going to work well together unless some massive improvements are made. Skal, WCS and Papa don't rebound well enough to play winning basketball together. Papa could rebound with better fundamentals. WCS can rebound at an average rate when he puts forth the effort. Skal just simply wont be able to rebound unless he puts on some serious weight. Throw in our SF's who are Justin Jackson and a handful of guys who are actually SG's and there is no one on this team that is young and can currently rebound.

I'm not counting on Giles for anything so whatever he gives us will be a positive. Small sample size but his per40 college rebounding rate was better than Skal and WCS's and that's coming off of devastating injuries.

I think the most sure thing the Kings have at the moment will be PG play and outside shooting. They're shooting poorly right now but that'll work itself out. So the main problems will be on the defensive and rebounding side and most of that comes down to our big men and our future SF. IMO our big men are in competition with each other to see who is going to win out. I don't think they're in a situation where they're going to build chemistry and become the next Webber/Vlade duo. None of them complement each other very well so it's going to be about who shows themselves to be the most valuable. I think the losers get shipped out in a couple years.

Yes. The way its looking right now, by 2019 the league will be trending even smaller than now. Two years ago the Warriors started it with playing Draymond at center to close games, beating other teams with spacing and switching. Last year other teams followed. In the playoffs f.e., Houston played Ryan Anderson at Center just to get more space, totally abandoning rim protection.

This year, it seems like another step will follow: The golden rule that you at least start out big seems to take hits: The Cavs now start Love at Center with Crowder and Lebron at the 3/4. I'm sure we will also see more Giannis at the 5. Jordan Bell at 6'7" will play back up Center for the Warriors.

Its an evaluationary process. Once more and more teams are going to start small, other teams will follow. This will unlock even more teams starting small, because you dont have to worry that your Porzingis, AD or Skal get banged up. I think in 2019 we will have a situation where you have one big at maximum at the floor who is big or strong and can move his feet. The rest are guards or small forwards that space the floor.

Mason and Papa? Why would we let them go when they are going to be on cost controlled contracts? Way too much early speculation on the young guys. Papa is improving and I think he's a keeper. Not saying he's a dude but he's going to be at least a rotation guy.

Not for nothing but four of the top five guys in the next draft are big men.

you can almost certainly pencil in most of the vets will be gone in two years time and Malachi and hopefully Papa. The rest are keepers for the time being unless they don't show much improvement.

Rebuilding any team begins with defense and rebounding. This version of the Kings plays with some defensive intensity, and will get better with the team defense. Rebounding is another story, and so far it is hard to be optimistic. It takes position and desire. I don't see the desire from Papa, Willie or Skal. At the end of last year Willie had some 20 boards games It seems a mystery on how to get him fired up. He is not nearly as reluctant to shoot the ball as he used to be.

Fox/Mason
Bogs/Buddy
???/???
Skal/???
WCS??/??? (Hopefully one of Ayton or Bamba)

Vlade has done a great job getting us a bunch of young guards. Props.

As for bigs....WCS has all the potential in the world, but just doesn't seem to have any fire whatsoever. Jury is out on Papa. Giles is another wild card. I'm hoping at least one of those three is good enough to stick around (come on, Willie) but it's not for sure.

The vets are all stop-gap. I can see us trading any and all of them this year or this summer, depending on which of our young players emerge, and what we can get back.

Oh this is fun. I have no idea but Here's is what I'll guess right now:

PG: Fox
SG: Hield/Bogdan (could go either way on who ends up the starter here)
SF: Miles Bridges/Jackson (We miss out on the top top guys in next years draft and come away with Bridges who I love)
PF: Skal
C: Giles

If you ask me in an hour it will be completely different.

True, there will be always be a place for big man. But if you go back to my argument, the only one of those who would give Skal troubble because of size is Ayton. But still, by 2019 Skal hopefully put on some weight and manages to not get killed completely against bigger guys. They will still have an advantage against him, but if he can force them into say 45% fg post shots on defense and on offense Fox gets to the rim or kicks to an open three because of a spaced floor, the Kings will be a prety good team.

Bogdanovic | Hield

Are we trading our first this year?

I just don’t see how we’d miss out on Doncic, Bagley, Porter, Ayton, or Bamba we’re not better than 6 teams.

Yet to be determined. The ? symbol is our weak point in terms of our lineup in two years. Second to that is any of our young players who don't show improvement (or a good fit) this year. If we can put a package together that includes the pick and get a quality player who fills our need, then I'd part with the pick. That could get us into a serious playoff run a year sooner than using the pick on another 19 year old. But I'm not so impatient that I don't see the advantage of going for another quality 19 year old with - presumably - a bigger upside.

The draft rarely happens in order of worst to first, and it would not surprise me if we end up with a better record than 6 other teams.

Mason and Papa will not be gone. That would be essentially giving up on them. No chance that happens. Mason's a baller and pretty obvious high level NBA bench player. Papa is still unknown, but just turned 20. No chance we give up on Papa in two years unless some very unexpected obstacles or weaknesses show up. If he progresses as I expect, he's a future contender for a starting C spot somewhere in the league. He could easily be our future starting center depending on how he and WCS pan out. Skal is our clear future 4.

Skal is our clear future 4.

Uh yah.. honestly i dont know about that.... He can score but what else does he do? Dosen't defend well, rebound, pass.. Lacks intangibles and isn't fierce at all. Look.. I like the guy and I'm hoping he pans out but there are major holes in his game. I'm just calling it as I see it. I can't believe I called him a poor mans KG in the past. I was blinded.

Dont even get me started on WCS either.

I'm rooting for Skal, but he can't do anything except shoot the ball and use his hook shot right now. It's why I think he's the biggest boom or bust player. If he doesn't become a good NBA scorer, there is no way he sees any legitimate time on the floor. He can't rebound. He can't defend SFs. He can't defend PFs. He can't defend Cs. He can't defend PnR. He can't block shots. On offense, he can't handle the ball. He can't pass the ball. He struggles just getting to his spots on offense.

If we're going off SL and preseason, Skal hasn't improved on anything yet.. he's a raw basketball player.
