    Jayson Williams a Cavalier?

Retired forward still faces sentencing, retrial

CLEVELAND -- Jayson Williams, acquitted in April of aggravated manslaughter in the shooting death of a limousine driver, worked out with the Cleveland Cavaliers this week.

The 6-foot-10 forward retired from the New Jersey Nets in 2000 after career-ending leg and knee injuries.

"He wants to play," said Cavaliers coach Paul Silas, who spent three seasons with Williams when he was an assistant with the Nets. "We worked him out a little bit, and he can still play. He can certainly help somebody."

Silas said he did not know whether Cleveland would sign Williams, who worked out in Cleveland on Thursday.

Williams, 36, was acquitted of aggravated manslaughter but found guilty of covering up the fatal shooting of a hired driver at his mansion in February 2002. The jury deadlocked on a reckless manslaughter count, and Williams is scheduled to be retried Jan. 10.

Williams will not be sentenced until the remaining charge is settled. The possible sentences run from probation to about five years in prison on the cover-up charge, and 10 years on the reckless manslaughter charge.

Williams was an All-Star in 1997-98, when he averaged 13.6 rebounds. During his nine-year career, Williams averaged 7.3 points and 7.5 rebounds

that's kinda crazy, but do you really think any team would want to get involved with a player that would have to be jetting back and forth to court.....wait a tick......hmmmm....(LA Lakers....Kobe Bryant). Nevermind, teams dont care if players are guilty, all they care about is their contributions.

Maybe the Cavs are arelooking for someexperienced vets to help Lebron learn what it tkaes to become a championship caliber plaer, you know someone who has the killer instinct.

    Jayson is cavalier...about gun safety.
This loss devastated me. I tried to cover it up all day, but I'm literally flattened by this. The pain I feel now is unreal. I wish I could blame the refs and make myself feel better, and I don't judge people who do, people deal with this stuff differently. (Celt fan)

Yes, and it's the same Jayson Williams who was arrested along with Barkley in '92 for a bar fight in which he hit someone on the head with a beer mug.

It's the same Jayson Williams who was arrested after throwing a metal folding chair at a fan while playing for St. John's in '88.

It's the same Jayson Williams who fired a gun in the Meadowlands parking lot in '94.

It's the same Jayson Williams who refused to play for Phoenix (who drafted him in '90) because it was "too white". He got them to trade him to Philadelphia by drinking heavily and butting heads with Suns management.

It's the same Jayson Williams who shot a .50 caliber Desert Eagle at Wayne Chrebet, which Williams claimed (and Jason Seahorn corroborated) barely missed Chrebet's head.

It's the same Jayson Williams who pointed a pistol at Manute Bol's uncle after he made a comment Williams didn't appreciate.
