Mega whale pods and latest news, rumors, etc.

    More national media coverage.

The mayor said that Sacramento has not “finalized who our equity investors are.” But Chris Lehane, a Democratic political strategist who has been advising the mayor, sounded confident.

“Sacramento has benefited from having many whales, mega-whales and mega-whale pods,” he said.

Early morning local news is saying the mayor just might have a BIG announcement at his weekly press conference this morning. So again we wait to see what he'll say. I figured it was a good place to break the thread in advance of the hopefully big announcement.

EDIT: Oops. As Tetsjin has pointed out, the news was in error. A retraction has been made. There isn't any "big" announcement expected today.

No, that was apparently an intern who made a serious screw up.

    Per CBS 13's executive producer:

Not sure where we got this news about a "major announcement" by @KJ_MayorJohnson today. That is NOT expected. Web copy being updated

More importantly, Here We Buy Night 2 is March 24 against the Sixers. Plan accordingly.

One thing we've learned lately... who is good with their news coverage and who isn't. Among a great deal of top notch reporting, CBS 13 has been the mis-leader among them all. It's can't watch TV.

Let's hope this extended "silence" from KJ and crew is just to prevent the seattle guys from knowing their hand so we hit them hard with no chance for retaliation in April.

I think part of it is the complexity of the deal and part of it may indeed be waiting for the perfect "time" to announce. Right before the AS game would be good, no?

There must be more to it. 3+2+4 = 9.
Philadelphia is the home of the first pneumatic mailing tube in 1892 = 1.
    6ers = 6.

For those of u snot living in Sacramento or USA for that matter that would like to donate some money for the tickets to be given out to people, do we use the same method as for the HWB game against Utah?

    Mike? Anyone?
Jim Capers once called a foul on me while I was sitting on the bench. Tweet! "Foul, number fifty-three! Five-three!" Everybody was confused and looking around for number 53, so I stood up and said, "I'm over here and the only thing I'm fouling is the water bottle." - Darryl Dawkins

If you could, can you donate to the Crown Downtown organization? We are making t-shirts, etc., for the City Council meetings and games to raise awareness of the arena issue. The cost adds up quickly!

Obviously donating tickets, etc., would also be great. I don't know if those details have been released yet.

That's exactly what I was thinking.

The longer they stay silent the more strategic it is. We can't worry about the little people getting nervous, and you would never make an announcement just to assuage that. If we have the investors, waiting a month or two is not going to make or break the deal. We're in the "no-rush" phase of the process and we're in full control. No advantage gained by making the announcement now. Only thing is you have to manage the PR just a bit (dropping catchy phrases like "mega whale pods" -- gotta love Chris Lehane) so that the media doesn't get too out of hand already giving the team to Seattle, and the story that came out in the NY Times is a good example of the narrative we need to create. The fact that that was in the NYT was huge. A respected, non sports propaganda paper. This thing is going to be perfectly timed as usual. If it's announced now, Ballmer can redo an offer and get into a bit of a bidding war. No good. The people who want to buy the team and keep it in sac are every bit as interesting in that outcome as KJ and the fans, and they will not be guided by making us less "nervous". If you don't trust KJ's word, that's your problem.
    Big picture.

It really comes down to when does the NBA BOG want to review the offer. Public support is important, but rushing a plan to the public with holes can be a disaster. And there will no lack of people ready to poke those holes.
