Fate of Va. Beach arena project pushed to Tuesday

    http://hamptonroads.com/2013/01/fate...pushed-tuesday

Mayor Will Sessoms said today he plans to issue a statement tomorrow about the state of the project. It will be a joint statement with Comcast-Spectacor, the company that would operate the arena, he said.

hmm, a joint statement does not follow with nothing happening.

Not necessarily... it could be one of those "nothing has happened, but we're commited to making it happen" kind of statements.

The problem they have is the classic chicken-or-the-egg problem: they won't seek funding without a commitment from the Maloofs, and the Maloofs won't commit until they have all the money guaranteed (including all the revenue they want from their free arena). There is no deal to be made here until VB comes up with the cash.

Stay calm folks. I think the mayor of VB may have just awoken to how complex this idea is to pull off. Perhaps he thought the Maloofs were sincere for example. Perhaps he thought the NBA was a rubber stamp. Perhaps he also doesn't have the necessary money from the state and that's a big part to getting thw Maloofs signature on anything. As we learned, in the end, it is the Maloofs who have the power of veto and they don't have to make sense except in how greed dictates their actions.
    Upwards and onwards.
