DeMarcus Cousins divides opinions of Sacramento Kings

    http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports...aloof/1798287/

The decision to reinstate Cousins on Dec. 24 was made unilaterally by the team's owners and went against the wishes and planned protocol of the team's front office, according to three people with knowledge of the situation who spoke to USA TODAY Sports on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation. Specifically, one person with knowledge of the situation said Kings co-owner Gavin Maloof initiated a dialogue with Cousins on Dec. 23, had him discuss the situation with Smart and then made it clear that Cousins would return to the team the following day at practice.
As if we needed another reason to dislike the Maloofs.

And another reason to dislike Smart. Smart demands and deserves respect from his players but when he is told by his boss to do something, he reinstates Cousins and then passive aggressively doesn't let Cousins come with the team to Portland. He's in a way disobeying his boss. That's like flipping someone off when they aren't looking. The only good thing I can get from this is that Smart's disobedience might cost him his job. I personally would like to see him finish out the year unless we can snag a great coach immediately to replace him. What a fluster cuck. Simply inserting an assistant coach would probably go nowhere.

The article didn't really say who did what so I may be off base but even the dolts at the helm must be getting the idea something is wrong and it isn't only Cousins that is the problem. Gavin didn't help but neither did Smart. What's new?

When will this nightmare be over?

That story is interesting in so many different ways that focusing on the issue of Demarcus's reinstatement is almost missng the forest for the trees. If Amick knows all this, and this is what I was saying about his report on the situation back on Christmas Eve, but if he knows all this, its an almost unprecedented look at the politics inside the Kings' organization. Much danger, some promising possibiliies. Who knows how it goes.

The Maloofs have now obviously shown they want an NBA team to basically have full control of the entire team such as drafting, trading, when and who to punish, firings, etc. The Maloofs, from their personality, want an NBA team like an ordinary fan playing NBA 2k in franchise mode. Heck, if they could, they would be playing on the team.

Surprised it doesn't happen more often. The difference I think is the degree to which most owners truly are detached rich guys running other businesses and hiring underlings to take care of this one. The Maloofs however come to this thing like a familiy legacy, they've lost all their businesses, this IS their business now. So having them perched in the owner's box trying to micromanage everything would not be surprising. Wondering what GM worth his salt they could possibly hire to work under those conditions though.

Carmichael Dave retweeted this today. The Maloofs have a epic way of ruining everything they touch. Hey Bro's sell and a mountain of debt and stress will instantly be history. I bet it's on their mind more than ever right now.

Maloofs are obvious control freaks with Georgie the head freak. I never bought for one second their, "Kings are not for sale" endless pitch. The bidding starts at $500 million proves they have a price and someone is likely to pay it. Of course, that number only gets larger when debt they owe is factored plus possible relocation fee. I just hope someone local can bid and soon because I think odds are greater that a party not beholden to Sacramento is more likely to step in or even outbid any local group.

There is just so much wrong with what Gavin did I don't even know where to start. You can make a pretty good argument that they are blatantly destroying the franchise. This action shows that Petrie is officially neutered and Smart is a limbo coach. The players haven't completely given up yet, but they are totally on their own at this point.

Even if these morons manage to move this franchise, it's dead in the water. As much as they have burned the fan base here, they have lit a match to their family name and torched it as well. I think they don't even have a clue that they threw themselves under the bus.

Think that may be overdramatizing it a bit. There have been similar occurences down in Lakerland for instance. They seem to survive.

But I do think that it may show that Petrie really is on the way out now, that that is not just speculation or wishlisting. And frankly the Maloofs made the decision that the more improtant relationship going foward was between them and Cousins, not them and Geoff. That also means its very unlikely they would let Geoff trade away Boogie as his last act before exiting stage left. Which is frankly a good thing too.

Now DeMarcus has not earned it yet, but elite players on nearly any team, the superstar "so and so" and the "so and sos" players routinely have personal relationships with the owners of those franchises. They in fact are the most important employees those owners have, not the coaches or GM. If the Mavs wanted to suspend Dirk tommorow, you don't think it would have to pass through Cuban first?

Dave said maybe the Maloofs pushed for DeMarcus to be reinstated to save the value of the franchise because maybe, just maybe, they might actually sell the team. we can all hope!

sure would! and its not too far fetched since according to Amick, the Maloofs are throwing out numbers for "if" they decided to sell the team.

Amick usually knows what's going on so that's great. If they are throwing out numbers then I would have to think that they would at least entertain selling the team if the price was right.

How much do you guys think the Maloofs will need to sell the team?

It depends on how desperate they really are. They of course are going to claim they're not hurting so they can get a higher price. Any potential buyers are surely aware of this and are offering liquidation prices. Looking at their financial history, Maloof's will likely be forced to take what they can get. Period.

What a freaking disaster. This article shows how weak this organization is (if you really needed any evidence to begin with). So now you have the numbskull owners managing the numbskull Cousins, while undermining the GM and the coach. That's the perfect recipe for disaster. Call FEMA now. I find it extremely difficult to believe that there is a infinitesimal ray of silver lining behind all of this. All along, the safe default assumption with the Maloofs is to think the worst. Don't believe for a second that the sale of the team is imminent. That's too intelligent for these idiots. They will always make the wrong decision. Any "decision" they finally make will be forced upon them, not of their own making. They are the classic bumblers, who never take the bull by the horns, but are left gored at the end.

I completely agree with this. It's probably a pipe dream to think that they will sell but I guess it never hurts to dream, right? Like you said though, there may be a time when they really have no other choice other than to sell. I don't think they are liquid enough to continue owning this team in Sacramento much longer (so it's either sell or find a way to move the team and get bailed out).
