it means as a die hard basketball lover, id probably enjoy myself much more if i were born in ANY other city that has an NBA team, therefor making that "my team". instead of being born here into Kings country. i wouldnt be getting dicked around like we all are here in Sacramento.

This is something my family united behind for years, something we stayed up late to watch together. And now, just looking at the box score after each game seems to do the trick.
wow this is crazy. i relate to all of this 100%. i remember being in like 4th grade playing hoops with my buddies out the blacktop and we would each pretend to be a member of the Kings team at the time. watching every game with my dad (who flips the games on for a couple minutes and changes the channel now). getting together in giant groups to watch the playoff games with family and friends.

I won't wake up in the middle of the night to watch Kings games as long as this nonsense continues. It's not a matter of winning or losing (God knows how many games of that horrible 17 win season I watched), it's the stupidity that makes it all unbearable.

Back when I first got a high speed internet connection at my home and I was finally able to watch as many Kings games as I wanted we were a mediocre team with no fire, we were in dire need of true talent. Now we have that talent but it's handicapped by a supporting cast that doesn't fit in any sort of possible arrangement, with a clueless coach and a passive FO on top of that and it's 100 times worse than having just a bad team.

The only real reason I still follow the Kings are cause of Cousins and Tyreke tbh, as long as there is some hope and players that are worth watching cause you never know what they are going to do I will keep watching. As far as the rest of the roster they are all nice guys but there is not one guy there I would pay to go watch play.

Wait, is that how it works? I'm only allowed to be a fan of a team where I'm from? But I don't want to be a Hawks fan!

No one does. It's like eating at Waffle House. Watching the Hawks is what you do when everything else around you is closed.

It has never been harder to be a Kings fan... and I am pretty devoted. The people I know who were casual fans have stopped following the Kings entirely... stupid magoofs... they are like a leech on the heart of Sacramento.

I'm one of the biggest Kings fans you'll ever encounter. Been so since Day 1. I've been through it all. Pervis Ellison, Ricky Berry, Bobby Hurley, Bill Russell, Kenny Natt, Duane Causwell, Dick Motta, Derek Smith, Ralph Sampson, the Maloofs....

Talk about heartbreak! I used to be destroyed when the Kings would lose a tough game (even like 2 years ago). I would hate to read the Sacramento Bee the morning after losses. I've gotten to the point now where I honestly don't really care. Obviously, I care enough to be here posting but that's more like a hobby than anything. It's become so bad that it's almost laughable. I am numb now.

If they ever get good again I'm sure I'll go back to caring but right now I don't see how anybody can be emotionally invested in this franchise after the repeated dumps they've taken on our face the past couple of years.

And it's hard to blame them. Just to recap:

    (1) The Maloofs tried to move the team to Anaheim before the league forced them to try and work it out in Sacramento
    (2) The city did all it could to create an arena deal that the Maloofs agreed to before blowing it up weeks later
    (3) They then proceeded to crap all over Sacramento in their press conference
    (4) And started talking with other cities looking for a sweetheart deal to move elsewhere
    (5) All the while not improving the team at ALL, continuing to put a losing product on the floor for yet another year

As a kid I had a lot of resentment for fairweather fans whether it regarded the Niners, Giants or Kings. Now in my 30's I'm starting to realize that it's a much more rational approach to sports. At the end of the day watching games should really just be an enjoyable distraction and source of entertainment. I think the Kings have long since stopped being that for me. For years I rarely missed more than 2 or 3 games a year and went to Arco for as many as I could. These days, I catch bits of games if there's nothing else to do and hold on to the hope that the Maloofs will somehow sell and the team will stay in Sacramento.

    Good summary and well said.

    I hear you.

I look back on the days when I did a play-by-play of every single Kings game and marvel/wonder at my own dedication. I gave up dinners out and trips to town just to stay home and share my view of the game with the KF members who couldn't get game broadcasts. Vacations and weekend getaways were planned around the Kings schedule. My yearly treks to Sacramento were coordinated with home games.

It's not easy being a Kings fan right now and I don't fault anyone who simply has lost the passion. It's still there for me but I have to wonder if it's more tied to memories of the good times than it is linked to the current group of players, most of whom don't spark any real excitement.

On the other hand, it is mind-boggling to think that the Kings have any fans left precisely for the reasons you've outlined above. I think the Maloofs misjudged the feelings of Kings fans and I think they continue to do so. In the end, it might be the one thing that saves the Sacramento Kings.

I guess I'm the odd man out. I came to the Kings fairly recently. While the basketball is often difficult to watch, I think the Kings have massive unrealized potential that has been squandered to date by a string of awful coaches and a front office that has phoned it in. Both of those are organizational problems that could be remedied by the right buyer.

For me, much of the fun in watching the Kings is watching the players play to their potential despite the situation they're in. Cousins, Evans, IT, Jimmer, and even Salmons have all played at very high levels at times over the last two seasons. JT has become a pretty solid big man. Hayes does what Hayes does. Right now, while I wait for Burkle, I enjoy the times when one of the Kings' players steps up and has a great game. Outlaw's game in Portland was a hoot, precisely because it came out of nowhere.

rebuilding for this long and look at us. a franchise with no direction and really no light at the end of the tunnel (and thats even IF the team remains in this city), Owners that could care less about our city or the success of our team, a GM who is more overdue to be fired than AJ Smith and Norv Turner in San Diego

EVERY team in the league that has tried to rebuild in the last 6 years has passed us up. Hell look at the warriors!!! they are freaking 15-7 right now, just won their 4th game in a row (all 4 on the road) and it was in Miami against the defending freaking champion Miami Heat!

judging by the crap attendance at games, and the increasingly lower amount of activity in game/grades threads here on this forum, id say im not the only one who is losing interest in watching this team (even though i LOVE the NBA and more importantly my Kings). i just feel like the lack of care from the owners and front office is killing my love for this team.

i feel like i would be a happier person if i was born into litteraly ANY other NBA market in the country..........
I feel like were beating a dead horse. I realize people want to vent. Personally, I like to suffer silently, but hey, to each his own. My problem is that there's nothing new. Everyone knows what the problems are. Everyone knows were bad right now. I'm just not sure whats to be accomplished by contantly poking a sore wound. But as I said, I understand the frustration. I will say this, feeling good, never feels better than after having felt bad for a while. Its all part of being a fan. Unfortunately you have to suffer through the hard times in order enjoy the good times.

ya a few years ago i would agree with you.

hell even 2 years ago i would have said ya maybe we have been sucking, but soon we will be back in the playoffs and the arena will be rocking like it was back in the glory days. but now i see now happiness in sight. the team is going to suck as long as the maloofs own them, and they have insisted that they are not going to sell. and unfortunatly if they do sell the team, that means the team is probably on its way to Seattle. so i just dont see a light at the end of the tunnel anymore.

I still believe this roster can make the playoffs, however, the team has no hope and I cannot blame them. They never know if they can have any resemblance of permanency, they cycle through coaches like they are socks and the roster is not put together well. Why do we have 4-5 PG's yet no backup center?

If Rick Adelman was handed Tyreke and DMC along with a pure shooter like Jimmer and a player like MT who can put up 20 in his sleep and veterans like Chuck and Cisco who could care less about how big/small their role is, he would have a playoff team.

20 in his sleep huh? Hasn't been happening lately. Maybe he should wake up and try it!

not to mention the fact Smart is putting him in position for failure with the lineups hes putting him in

Yes.. don't care who doesn't think I'm a rah-rah fan... The team has sucked for 6-7 years, there has been players on the team I outright dislike and none right now who I individually support. This in combination with owners plotting/attempting to relocate my team, and the team's whereabouts still in the air... really, my love for this team doesn't resemble what it once was a decade ago, no doubt
