At this point, I think we will have to wait until the Maloofs indicate they are ready to sell. I would not be surprised if there is a lot of league pressure for them to do just that.

Great, great article. Very interesting, amusing and sad all at the same time. The way I look at it, logic is on the side of Sacramento keeping the Kings in Sacramento, but precedent seems to be on the side of the Maloofs, as to my knowledge the NBA never has forced owners to sell in this type of situation. Here's hoping logic wins out.

But you have to admit there has never been quite the same kind of situation as what we've endured.

There is a first time for everything!
Jim Capers once called a foul on me while I was sitting on the bench. Tweet! "Foul, number fifty-three! Five-three!" Everybody was confused and looking around for number 53, so I stood up and said, "I'm over here and the only thing I'm fouling is the water bottle." - Darryl Dawkins

Agreed. This situation is about as extreme as you can get. So the way I look at, if the NBA doesn't step in and fix it for Sacramento, they never will fix it for any team, under any circumstances.

I see some similarities to the situation with the Hornets -- scumbaggery on the part of an owner who didn't have enough money. As I understand it, the league took ownership from George Shinn and eventually sold the team to Saints owner Tom Benson. Did Shinn ask the league to take the team or did the league force him to give it up? I'd appreciate hearing from someone who knows more about this situation that I do.

I don't think any city has endured what we are enduring. I maintain that if the Kings do leave town that this will go down as the biggest screw job a professional owner has ever put upon a city. It will even trump Art Modell.

The magoofs are not smart enough and don't have the financial fluidity to do it otherwise would have been gone a long time ago. Money is pooring out every day for the magoofs and everybody has a price. Ego and desperation is what's driving this for them but everyone can clearly see the road is out for them.

It's true.. The Maloofs probably thought we couldn't come up with the funding or the arena deal, and when it was done they tried to find any way possible to get out of it and they succeeded.

That last paragraph nailed it. The Maloofs are barely wealthy enough to run an NBA club with the bare minimum of salary paid to players/coaches/office staff and they want to move the team to a place that will give them what would probably equate to the best deal out of all of the owners in the NBA. OR, force them to sell and everything gets done here in Sac and we keep an already successful market in the NBA. Geez tough choice..
    THANK YOU MAYOR JOHNSON!
    Thank you Vivek Ranadive!
    Thank you Carmichael Dave!
    Thank you Mike!
Thank you every other minority owner!

You all saved the Sacramento Kings! Long live Sacramento!

It was for sale and no local buyers so the league stepped in.
