Exclamation NBA Owners forced to choose between Maloofs and Sacramento- Aaron Bruski

I didn't see this posted thus far, so I thought it would interest you all. It's a very good analysis in my admittedly non-Sacramento based opinion.

"Regardless of the end game here, the NBA will eventually be forced to make a decision about who they value more – Sacramento or the Maloofs.

One of them has a $250 million arena subsidy with well-funded owners ready to pick up the ball and run, and the other is running around North America panhandling with the NBA logo."
I may be wrong, but I doubt it...

^^ THAT is our only hope & saving grace. The fact that KJ can go to the relocation committee and say "hey, we have a $250M deal ready and available, and committed buyers willing to pay FAIR price to keep the team here". We have the ammo to show that this community has A LOT to offer to an organization wiling to do their part.

I think the critical shift I have seen is now that Sacramento has offered to build an areana, it is the NBA's CHOICE if they leave Sacramento; the NBA is no longer being forced out... that seems like it will be much harder to sell to any NBA relocation committee.

I agree with Jose and NoBonus. KJ stepping up with the arena deal (and, don't forget, $10 million in sponsorships) as well as Burkle in the wings was brilliant. As many of us have said before, MSE is an NBA problem, not a Sacramento problem. Moving the team does nothing to fix it.

Great article. Pretty funny/sad/amazing how George Maloof is threatening not only the financial health of the NBA but possibly the health of all professional leagues and their local relationships and funding. Who said the Maloofs were underachievers!

This really was a great summary of the whole situation. I'm going to forward this to anyone who asks me what's going on with the Kings (it comes up at least every other week). I especially like the closing lines:

One of them has a $250 million arena subsidy with well-funded owners ready to pick up the ball and run, and the other is running around North America panhandling with the NBA logo.

It’s your move, NBA. Everybody is watching.
    Yep, that about says it.

Very good article on the situation. The fact that a buyer like Burkle feels he can do just fine in the Sacramento market just proves the only reason the Maloofs can't is because they are inept or broke or both. I vote for the latter; both. Also I'm pretty sure someone like Burkle would be ready to step in and get an arena built. I hope the league pushes the Maloofs out and gives Sacramento the kind of owner it deserves.

    Great article. Very telling...

"So while this has become a blood issue for George Maloof, who hates Sacramento, the real blood issue for the other 29 NBA owners is what half or even a quarter of $3 billion looks like tattooed on the wrong side of their balance sheet."

This article is a must read.

It does a splendid job of explaining how a Kings move will not only be bad for Sacramento - it will also be bad for the NBA and could even have a negative impact on the NFL, MLB and NHL.

Excellent article! I agree, its a must read, especially for those that really haven't followed the issue like some of us. It puts everything in logical prespective. No one can predict the outcome at this point, especially if it ends up in an antitrust court. But as he pointed out in the article, if you can't afford enough duct tape to hold up some tarps inside the arena, can you really afford to go to court with the NBA.

It is an excellent article no doubt. I sense that the NBA is very strategic and careful as to how they go on about this issue. I am confident that the NBA would love nothing more than to get "the boys" out of the league but was to give the process a due course so that they cover the angles of possible legal attack.

I still think that we will see the NBA take us over like they did with New Orleans and sell the team to an owner or ownership group that wants to keep the team in Sacramento and is willing to go ahead with the deal for the new arena that the clowns backtracked on.
Jim Capers once called a foul on me while I was sitting on the bench. Tweet! "Foul, number fifty-three! Five-three!" Everybody was confused and looking around for number 53, so I stood up and said, "I'm over here and the only thing I'm fouling is the water bottle." - Darryl Dawkins

This article really gives you the feeling that the Maloofs are doomed and that Sacramento will prevail. The situation really doesnt permit broke owners to push the NBA around. There are infinite analogies that can be made for this situation and they all sound totally ridiculous.

Absolutely agree. IMO, it should be permanently placed with entire text laid out on Kingsfans Home Page/Front Page. It really is that important.
