Thread: Jimmer

    Jimmer

I'm a Suns fan, lived in Arizona almost all of my life, but I went to high school in Sacramento (Franklin HS in Elk Grove) and enjoyed watching the Kings a lot when I was there....they became my second favorite team, even though they're in the same division as PHX.

Anyways, I was super excited when they got Jimmer, as I'd watched a lot of him at BYU and felt like he definitely had NBA range, and was such a great shooter/scorer that even though his size/build wasn't perfect for the NBA game, he would survive because of his amazing BBall smarts, and skills.

It's been so frustrating to see how Keith Smart uses him, though. He has made Jimmer adjust his game, making Jimmer adapt to the kings (smart's) style....and then fans wonder why Jimmer isn't doing well, and criticize him....it's so stupid, and really makes me question Keith Smart's 'smarts'. He has one of the best shooters in the league, arguably. Someone who can create his own shot. But watching the Kings play, it's clear that he doesn't let jimmer BE JIMMER. What do you guys think? I always check the box scores, and he's getting like, 5 minutes or less per game. He didn't get ANY playing time tonight! (against the Pacers.) Do you guys like Jimmer? If not, why? Do you think he just "sucks", or do you have any real reasons? Do any of you agree that Keith Smart just isn't using him the right way?

I think if he gets traded or winds up playing for another team, and they use him the right way, he can be a 20 ppg guy in this league, I really believe that.

Welcome to KF. There are tons of threads about Jimmer, what we think of him, how we think he's been used, etc. In fact, the topic has been constant since the day we traded down our draft pick to get him.

Jimmer could easily be one of those NBA players who, despite lighting it up in college, just never make it in the NBA. I wanted to like him - hell, I even bought one of his jerseys - but as yet he hasn't shown me much...

Jimmer hasn't been able to consistently create his own shot, and has been average at best as a shooter. He has been worse than advertised as a ball handler (would rather have JT take it up court), and as expected on defense (lots of effort no results).

Smart has issues, but Jimmer wouldn't solve any of them. If Jimmer was a great shooter I could see some use next to Reke, but he has not been. Jimmer has done better dribbling to shoot rather than catch and shoot, not what this team needs.

I agree 100%, I too truly believe Jimmer is a great talent wasting away in Sacramento. I hope one day he gets a real opportunity to shine, not just an opportunity for a few minutes here and there. Jimmer, like most players, needs free reign without looking over his shoulder worrying about being benched. I truly believe Jimmer is the 3rd best player on this team behind Reke and Cuz but he is being blackballed by the team, IMO. Cousins will flatout refuse to give him the ball at times. I think he's the only white player on the team and definitely the only one that ever plays. I don't know what to think.

Jimmer can't show you anything sitting on the bench or playing sporadic limited minutes.

was it Keith Smart that benched Jeremy Lin in Warriors?

No, and he's obviously not doing much in practice or we'd be hearing about it. Sorry, but he has failed to impress almost every single time he's been on the court. I was really hopeful that he would pan out but it just might not be in the cards. He's a good kid and I like him but I just don't think he has much longer to turn it around. And, contrary to what you and other Jimmer fans think, it's on HIM. The hungry ones find a way to get onto the court.

Please do not even think about making this about race. It's not true, it's not cool and it's not acceptable around here.

I had generally assumed that the Jimmermania balloon had been punctured and we weren't going to see any more of these threads. It does so fill me with heartwarming joy to see that I was mistaken.

Some of the conspiracy theories that these jimmer only fans have are getting increasingly wild, and increasingly silly.

.....and the team can't afford to play him the minutes he needs to score. His foot speed or lack thereof is a fact that puts a damper on a full useful career. On a very good team he could be a good spot scorer but too slow for more. Good luck Jimmer.

Seriously, they'd be 0-3 right now with Jimmer out there.

Jimmer can play offense, i have no doubt about this. The problem is while he has improved he is still not a very good defender. As you have seen our defense had been very good thus year and jimmer does not fit in with that. I would like to see him get a few minutes though just so he stays in rhythm but at this point he only about a 10 min guy at best.

Players who were labeled bad 'individual' defenders...(team defense is what wins titles)

Magic Johnson (He himself said he was)

    Nash (Two time MVP)

    Dirk (MVP, finals MVP, etc)

    Tony Parker

    Mike Bibby (your very own)

POINT BEING, defense is a team concept. Offense is a team concept. If someone has to cover for Jimmer if he is beaten defensively...SO WHAT. Jimmer has the skills to cover for the horrible offensive players on this team. This is a TEAM game. They cover him. He covers them. See how that works?

The offense of those players was/is miles beyond what their defense lacked. Jimmer's defense at this point is so bad that he needs to have an above average offensive game just to break even with how bad he defense is. Problem is, he hardly ever has above average offensive games.

Interesting take on why Jimmer isn't playing...

"I have no idea why he chooses not to play Jimmer but it may have something to do with Steve Alford. Twenty-five years ago, Smart had to subordinate his own high-flying college career to Alford, a good-looking, articulate, popular white kid (can I say that?) who could really shoot. Smart may have hit the NCAA tournament winning shot but Alford was the reason that Indiana was even in the game and he was a media darling who then had a mediocre pro career. I don't think Smart can let go of Steve Alford and Jimmer will sit on the bench until either he is traded or Smart is fired--that simple."

How dare you compare Jimmer with these great, proven HOF caliber players. Try to better Isaih Thomas, The 60th pick first.

while i am certainly no defender of keith smart's gameplan thus far in his sacramento tenure, i just love that people would actually accuse a black coach of reverse racism in defense of a deep bench scrub like jimmer...

its just... well, its... i can't...

if jimmer were truly the great white hope, if he were, say, the second coming of john stockton, it'd be one thing. but he's not. and he probably never will be. i'll say it again, in a guard rotation that already includes tyreke evans, marcus thornton, aaron brooks, and isaiah thomas, jimmer is the odd man out, and its not even close. you wanna blame someone for jimmer's playing time? blame the maloofs and geoff petrie, who crowded the kings backcourt with players who were always gonna rise well above jimmer in the pecking order, stifling his opportunity to grow...
