It has to do with Hall of Famers who actually dont watch or pay attention their old teams. Anyone can be prepped on the most recent game, but if you dont have the background for the current players time with the team then there is information left out. So was he making statements of the current game or the entire year?

I think it's pretty obvious he was just watching the game and describing what he saw. Has he never seen Tyreke play before? Doubtful. The guy did win rookie of the year after all -- casual basketball fans have seen him play before. But at the same time, I doubt he watches almost every game like we do.

I don't think that makes his opinion, as a hall-of-fame basketball player with a similar build and a similar style of play, any less insightful. In fact, I don't think you would have to watch more than about 10 minutes of any Kings game in the last two months to see that Tyreke isn't being utilized properly. We've all been saying that -- but it does carry more weight coming from Oscar Robertson. By virtue of his past experience, he has a level of authority on the subject that none of us will ever have.
    Defense matters.

I disagree. To me it was fairly apparent that Big O had at least a rudimentary knowledge of Tyreke Evans, his skills and abilities, and his current situation.

And yes, Section101, we get it. You were at the game. Since you didn't hear the broadcast, I find it ludicrous that you continue to argue about the meaning of Big O's comments. What is important to me is that a Hall of Fame player whose number hangs in the rafters at PBP came on and said something that made a helluva lot of sense about the proper utilization of Tyreke Evans. You want to argue minutiae and I wanted to point out that this was another indication that Smart just wasn't making the best use of Evans' talents.

There are certain players who, if they actually talk specifics about a current player, bear listening to. I would argue vehemently that Oscar Robertson is one of those players.

I actually think a lot of former player opinions are useless. A great majority of pro athletes are physically gifted but not all that analytically able or smart. If you gave the average superstar a chance to draft a team he'd want, he'd probably grab a bunch of washed up guys and players that don't mix just because of what I can best describe as "name value".

But Big O is the type of player I'd listen to, as long as the changes in the game haven't passed him and his concept of basketball by.

    Yes.
I appreciate a good math pun - as long as it isn't too graphic.

However, one thing that we are overlooking, myself included is, why would a coach that is worth a pinch of salt want to come to coach the Kings?! I know we have some nice young talent and IMHO 2 players to build around in Cousins and Evans BUT a MAJOR turn off in all this is the ownership and uncertainty of the situation.

Lets to a little exercise where we out ourselves in the position of Nate McMillan who I think would be great for this team. I have no doubt he will get another coaching job during the off-season.

    Pros for coaching the Kings
    - Young talent already here (specifically Cousins and Evans who are McMillan type players)
    - Another quality lottery pick to add to the mix
    - Fantastic fan base

    Cons for coaching the Kings
    - Schizophrenic ownership
    - Uncertainty of the whereabouts of the franchise (will they remain in Sacramento or will they relocate and where to?)
    - Cost cutting in the operations department
    - Broke owners who won't spend to get better and will continue to field a team on the cheap
    - Will the owners have the ability to re-sign our most important players (Cousins and Reke).

There are just too many question marks around this franchise at the moment for any self respecting, proven NBA coach to be interested in overlooking other opportunities to jump on board.

We are in a REALLY ****ty position where even if the Magoofs WANT to spend some serious money or a REAL, PROVEN coach, chances are that coach will say "thanks but no thanks" and look elsewhere.

Its almost better being unemployed coach than being employed by the Kings.
You’re right. I think the drawing point will have to be the Maloofs making a clear cut (and maybe in writing because they don’t honor their word) that the coach will have control of the team (meaning his players) and the GM will have their hands free to truly improve this team.

Other than that, you’re right, why would a proven coach come into this ownership mess and that goes back to my original problem…

I really do hope that we talk to Nate this summer, I'm not sure that's going to happen and I think this would be huge mistake. (On the Side: And from what I've heard the Magic might go after him if SVG is fired.)

DocHolliday - Thompson dribbling on the perimeter, Thomspon throws it in to Thompson, Thompson fakes to the right and passes it to Thompson thundering down the lane, and Thompson throws it down!!!!

What a nice play by Thomspon. It was all set up by the initial pass by Thomspon, down to Thompson. And, Thompson with great awareness caught Thompson in stride, so Thompson could take it in for 2.

Does anybody have the video of Oscar Robertson talking about Tyreke? I'd love to hear what he has to say. Thanks in advance.

Oh look what I found. Since you are so high on Oscars opinion I guess you have jumped on the darkside. So it is now settled, Tyreke is not a PG because Oscar Robinson says so.

They need to address one situation. They need better athletes. It's difficult to get a player and try to make him a player he's not (Tyreke Evans at point guard).

Yes, I respect Oscar Robertson and his opinion. And no, I don't think I've gotten into the Reke is a point guard argument this year. I think he's a guard - well, d'oh - but I prefer to see him at the 2, with IT playing the 1. And ideally, they'd play as a guard duo adapting their roles to best confuse and confound the competition at any given time.

BTW? Anything else of mine you'd like to dig up and refute? Feel free but I have to at some point wonder just how much of this is just post envy.
