Demarcus rips Blake Griffin

Sacramento Kings forward DeMarcus Cousins didn't have anything good to say about Blake Griffin of the Los Angeles Clippers after Thursday night's physical matchup.

The pair shoved each other, and Cousins even appeared to direct an elbow Griffin's way in the Clippers' 93-85 win.

But Griffin told reporters after the game that he was going to leave what happened between the two players on the court and not discuss it with the media.

Informed of Griffin's comments afterward, the second-year Kings player took issue.

"Of course that's what Blake is going to say because he's in L.A., where actors belong," Cousins told reporters in Sacramento. "He's an actor, so of course he would say that."

Cousins fouled out in only 18 minutes of play, finishing with just eight points and three rebounds. Griffin was whistled only three times in 38 minutes and finished with 14 points and nine rebounds.

"If they're going to let it be physical, it's usually physical on both ends," Cousins said. "You saw the game so I don't really have to say much."

Asked about the fifth foul he received for a play on Griffin with a little more than a minute left in the game, Cousins indicated he believed Griffin was faking.

"I guess the wind from my hand hit him in the eye and I guess he got fouled by the wind," Cousins said. "I'm not sure."

The Kings and Clippers play again Saturday night in Los Angeles, the only home-and-home the Clippers have this season.

I like that about Cousins. He seems "old school". He's not out there hugging folks before or after the game. I wish we would have more players with that mentallity.

But, Cousins is right in the sense that he's babied. The taunting occurs after every dunk and he's beginning to rub me the wrong way by looking for a foul while flying to the floor with circus du soleil precision. He's an extremely strong & athletic human being, yet decides to take that ginobli-esque path of selling it even further.

If Cousins wasn't on the Kings, he'd probably rub me the wrong way as well with his antics, but then again he already has that reputation of being testy.

Blake generates $$ for the league, so in a sense it makes sense why they would protect him.

Griffin better watch himself. High jumping and taunting is not healthy combination in the NBA. It doesn't take much to back into a player's legs when he gets up into the air.

He's right, and honestly this needed saying. Especially after that ridiculous media overreaction to the "flagrant" foul put on him a couple of weeks ago, a foul which was no more than a playoff style "hard foul." But yet it was on Blake, so it was made out to be an assassination attempt.

For people that have played lots of street ball in urban settings, the Cousins-Griffin battle is a classic that makes the game much more interesting. Cousins refuses to be pushed around although he has figured out the disparity in the way that the rules are enforced. Cousins has a toughness that I really like and just needs to continue his maturation. Larry Bird to me was the ultimate warrior on the floor. He was a tough kid growing up, but didn't initiate the rough stuff. If someone gave him an elbow, they would instantly get one back. Larry didn't get mad, but he got even. He let the scoreboard do the talking.Griffin to me is a great talent with a certain attitude problem. He is a punk. One of these days he is going to get submarined making a dunk and probably will get hurt as a result. I am not saying this is right but other big men in the league will only take his wrestling for so long. It is much like a brushback pitch in baseball, it is a sign for some players to wake up and respect the game. I agree with Kingster.

You know, something about Griffin's attitude rubbed me the wrong way in college too. Great player, but he's a prima dona and already one of the bigger floppers in the league. I hope Demarcus gets 40 on him tomorrow. Someone needs to put him in his place.

This won't help his strained relationship with the refs, but to be honest, NBA refs rarely change their tune. If they've decided that DMC is going to be on their ****list then you might as well use it as a platform to make statements like this.

Sometimes this kind of money is well spent. I believe it is dawning on the league that Boogie is far more than a petulant child but one of the future stars of the league. He is drawing attention to himself and separating himself from the mere mortals of excellence found in the NBA and declaring that he is more than that. It may not be long before crowds come to see Boogie (I'd pay) and he will get the star calls if they indeed exist. Oh, hell, of course they do. He needs to follow up with friendly chats with the officials during timeouts and whenever he can and soon he will be seen for what he is - da Boogie Monster! If he was in LA, he would soon be selling cars but unfortunately he will miss out on the star making qualities of living in a big market. Unfortunately he suffers from the same problem that holds Kevin Love back.

He will become a star only because he is great.

Ah, yes, but as a followup to what I just wrote, if the officials find out that he is a sincere and frequently charming Boogie, they willl listen. How many of us have been surprised at what a charming guy Boogie can be. I certainbly was surprised to listen to him give an interview. He's a nice guy who is also very competitive. What's wrong with that? This is why I say he needs to chat up the officials. They have to find out that he is not the enemy and really, he isn't. He is learning rapidly to be more accepting of the officials mistakes and they may very well learn to give him a break because he has skills above and beyond mere mortals.

What they don't like from Boogie is his tendency to show them up. If anyone is paying attention, he isn't doing that as much anymore. Sure it's still a high rate and that angers officials but it is a huge percentage improvement from his first year.




Edit: Boogie is a nice guy. This may come as a shock to the rest of the league and it may come as a shock to the officials. It certainly comes as a shock to the four GMs who passed on him on draft day. Boogie needs to just be Boogie and any myths or preconceptions will go away and he will begin to see that waving a hand in Griffen's face is not a foul anymore.
