Unhappy Kansas City wants the Kings back

I just came from kcroyals.com. There's a thread there about the Kings moving back to KC. Is there any probability of this happening? Please tell me this is a bunch of rubbish.

Gavin or Joe forgot which one was on the radio after the Natamos plan got nixed.

He stated - THEY have never talked about moving out of Sacramento, They don't want to move and they just want to go forward and work on a deal that works for the City.

The media is so going overboard on this its not even funny. Guess thats what the media does tho to get viewers.

I think its unrealsitic to totally dismiss the idea -- the door is ajar now and I'll just say upfront that if there is no new arena in 5 years the kc folks might be celebrating the return fo the Kings (get it? ).

But not as if they have said they were leacing or anything -- keep on saying the opposite actualy. So think Sacto is more or less going to have to force their hand before it happens.

I agree that you can't dismiss the idea, but I don't think we have 5 years to play with. My understanding is that Arco won't be safe in 5 years, which means we need to start building at some point before that, whether it's in Sac or somewhere else. I don't have any idea how long it takes to build a new arena, but I imagine it takes a while. So, I am thinking we are going to need a solution within the next 3 years or so...

I am not dismissing the idea but I think the media is way overplaying it and playing on peoples emotions. I think the Maloofs truely want to stay here, especially vs going to KC. Now Vegas is another story.

Same thing happened with the Giants and last min they were bought out with a 100% private financed arena. I think something will happen. Wishfull thinking

I agree. I mean, Wednedsay night as I was watching the local Sacramento news, the first 10-15 whole minutes were filled up with news about the kings...what with Webb being traded as breaking news, and then the arena issue being drug on and on.

the president of the Metro Chamber was on 1140 tonight, and it sounds like they have a new committee together to work on the arena issue. Didn't go into much detail, but he said they think they can get something done, and he knows it needs to get it done soon. He also brought up a good point, in that the study on Arco that gave it 5 years was done a year ago. 4 years and counting...

Metro Chamber's website has their 2005 plan and information on their proposed action in helping the arena get built.

Kansas City voters passed a hotel/rental car tax increase last year that will go towards the building of a new 18-20,000 seat arena. The new building will be called the Sprint Center and should be completed in March 2007. They don't have a pro team yet, but are hoping to use the new building to lure a team. It was Kansas City Kings, and since i am from the KC area and know that they have broken ground on a new arena...it is possible but not likely...i think that the maloofs would go to vegas first over KC...but sac needs to get the kings a new arena or you will be saying goodby to the team sooner than you may think
