Uh, yes clearly Maggette is trash since he is a better rebounder at 6'6" than Lewis is at 6'10" and also happens to be a better scorer. And it also makes perfect sense to trade Artest for Lewis since Lewis is a free agent and the Kings could thus find a way to trade Artest for nothing.
I like the way you think.
Lewis is a good player but his pending free agency and INJURY are a problem. We would be better off trading Artest for Maggette. Maggette is a good scorer and can get to the line. Something we need big time IMO.
Don't forget his ability to get to the line at a Paul Pierce like rate. Last year he took the fewest amount of FG attempts (11.7) to get in the top 10 in most FT attempts (8 a game). The year before that while starting he averaged 10+ free throws tying for the least amount of field goals taken in that top 10 at 14.9.

corey is another guard so tell me this....if we get him he starts at 2 and we move kmart to 3??? wow. gives us great height advantage.
or does he come off the bench at 2 behind martin. and we start salmons at the 3. and have garcia back him up????????
we are to guard heavy as it is.
if the kings trade Ron Ron then Kenny better be with that deal. other wise clippers mug us. or atleast a draft pick also.
Tyreke Evans and DeMarcus Cousins!
No idea where all this Corey Maggette hate came from.
He and Lewis are very much on a similar level, just with different games. Both are primarily SFs, even if Maggette has always looked like an OG to me. Still has spent most of his career at SF. Both are 20+ ppg scorers when given minutes. Neither is a true impact guy. Just more second fiddles for a team full of them.
I would doubt Seattle would have any interest anyway, but I would say this -- the one interesting thing wiht trading for Lewis would be that we would then have on our team two of the biggest potential free agents of the summer in Rashard and Bibby. The problem being, that that's not really a good thing -- all that salary could come off the books, which is normally good. But given that that salary was atatched to two 20ppg type scorers in Mike and Rashard, there is no way given the free agents available that you couold bring back more talent than you were losing to the market.

The only one hating on maggette in this thread might be the original poster

The thing I don't like about Maggette is that he seems like he's got one real strategy -- drive to the hole and draw fouls. I watch Clippers games from time to time since I live in LA and they're on, and I never see him do anything else. Offensively he's a lot like Kevin Martin. Gets his points, but doesn't really help anyone else out in the process. I don't know that we'd need two players on our team doing the same thing. And he's not going to give you anywhere near what Artest does defensively.

What in the heck are you talking about? Seriously?
All he did was average 20+ppg for two years before he got hurt and lost his spot in rotation to injury + fell into disfavor. What exactly are you expecting from him? His last full season he averaged more points than Kevin is averaging right now. 22 and 6rebs. He is not a HOF player, but he is a major scorer. Does he have to go 25pts 10rebs in order to not suck??

stats dont mean anything to me anymore... its all about impact with me nowadays and impact and maggete do not go in the same sentence together.
I'm inclined to slightly disagree. Stats don't tell everything. If that were the case, then Stephon Marbury would be a lot more acclaimed. The same goes for other over-inflated players.
Maggette is great at driving to the basket but he's a bit of a bonehead. For example, he settles for jumpshots and 3 pointers a little too often and he's a horrendous 3 point shooter. Also, he just does stupid stuff here and there. And for a guy as strong and quick as he is, he really isn't that great a defender.
Don't get me wrong, I like his game and he's definitely a good player but don't go overboard on him. I know that Rockets fans down here in H-town always clamor for him too but everytime the Clippers play us and people watch him, all of the talk just dies because his stats just seem hollow. Then people forget and it comes back. There's a reason why he's always been a bench player despite putting up 20 points a game. Something is always missing with him.
Always been a bench player?
Again, what the heck are people talking about? Do they even know the player we are discussing? He took three years to develop (at ages 20, 21, 22). Then started for 3 years (actually started most of his 3rd year too), putting up 17 and 5, 21 and 6 and 22 and 6, and then got injured last eyar and brought off the bench. That's the career.
He's not a superstar, may not even be a 20ppg scorer on a really good team -- can be a bit of stat inflation from good player on bad team syndrome. But there aren't many in the league who are going to go 22 and 6 on any team, good or bad. He's clearly been a star level, borderline All-Star type scorer.

Fair enough but some people are creating some absurd expectations for this guy. He's a guy who'd you want to be a 2nd or 3rd option. He has a lot of deficiencies and I'm honestly scared at the possibility of him taking a lot more shots since he tends to lose focus a lot and settle for bad shots. He gets Baron Davis syndrome and forgets the fact that he can basically cut to the basket at will. Maggette just makes you so frustrated sometimes because if he just raised his basketball IQ a little, he'd be a top tier scorer. Also it would help if he'd work on that jumpshot.
The important thing is to be grounded in an estimation of Maggette. The Kings still need a dominant 1st option player. Maggette is a Kevin Martin type player (although they tend to score in completely different ways) in that he's a 2nd option. But Maggette is probably the best thing you'll get for Artest.
Because, like I said, his scoring doesn't help anyone else. We already have one of the top guys in the league for FTA -- his name is Kevin Martin. You add Maggette and now your whole offense is drawing fouls. Not to mention the drop off in defense would be huge. I don't think Maggette is a bad player, but I don't think he would add anything to team chemistry so why should we trade Artest for him when Artest is the better overall player? We would lose some talent and at best be no better off than we were before.
I'm not seeing much of the 'absurd expectations' for Maggette that you mention, but I am seeing some incredible bashing of a pretty good player. For some of these people to call Maggette worthless over & over is just plain weird. I guess it's the fear of losing a guy (Artest) who can be one of the top defenders in the league, but who usually hurts us offensively, for an athletic guy (Maggette) who defends well and gives you 20 pts and 6 boards/game. IMO the fact that Artest is a head-case makes the value of these two guys roughly the same.
