Gerald Wallace To Hospital!

Charlotte Bobcats: Forward Gerald Wallace was elbowed in the face during practice Thursday and removed from the court on a stretcher.

He was awake and moving his arms and legs as he was strapped onto a board and loaded into an ambulance and taken to a hospital. The team did not immediately update his condition.

Wallace was tended to on the court for nearly 30 minutes. He had been guarding Tamar Slay during a scrimmage when he was injured.

"I was making a move and Gerald ran into my elbow," Slay said. "He was going one way and I was going the other. We just connected, collided."

Coach Bernie Bickerstaff ended practice early.

"It shows you how dangerous this is and the fact that basketball being a noncontact sport is a misnomer," he said.

Wallace, who was selected from Sacramento in June's expansion draft, has started all 13 games for the Bobcats. Known for his aggressive style, he's fourth on the team in scoring at 11.4 points a game and third in rebounding at 5.9.

I hope he'll be okay too. Even though I don't think it was anything serious b/c they said he was conscious and moving his limbs, so that is a good sign. He probably has a concussion. The 30 min. more than likely had to do with the initial assessment. After they saw it wasn't life threatening, they probably did an evaluation to rule out any other possible serious injury before sending him out. He was placed on a board because that's normally the standard for when someone falls to the ground after a head or neck injury. I doubt it's serious and the trip to the hospital was for MRIs or XRays. If it turns out to be real serious I would be surprised.

No. I guess because my outlook is a little different when it comes to players being injured since it's what I'm studying in school. Even if it was my favorite player, based on the info provided I wouldn't be that worried. I would be more interested in hearing about the injury, how they treated him, what rehab if necessary, etc...

FORT MILL, S.C. - Charlotte Bobcats forward Gerald Wallace suffered a concussion Thursday after being hit in the face with an elbow during practice.




Wallace was taken from the court on a stretcher and taken to Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, where he was diagnosed as suffering a Grade II concussion, or one that results in amnesia. He won’t play in the Bobcats’ next game at New York on Saturday, the team said.
Wallace, who appeared to be briefly unconscious, was awake and moving his arms and legs as he was strapped onto a backboard and loaded into the ambulance outside the team’s practice facility.

Wallace was defending forward Tamar Slay during a scrimmage when he was injured.

“I was making a move and Gerald ran into my elbow,” Slay said. “He was going one way and I was going the other. We just connected, collided.”

While Wallace was being treated on the court for nearly 30 minutes, coach Bernie Bickerstaff ended practice early.

It's scary getting hurt of course. But I thought it might have been something more worst not dealing with basketball, that's all.
