What have they done or said that would lead anyone to believe that. Or is it just wishful thinking on your part? They've had ample opportunity to state their true intentions, and we've heard nothing, other than lies, saying that the team wasn't for sale, and that they would never sell, but then going behind the backs of the city, and the minority owners, and trying to sell the team to Seattle.

I defended the Maloofs for a long long time. But no more! As far as I'm concerned, they're the scum of the earth!
If the Maloofs had any intention of selling to someone that would keep them in Sacramento they would have done one of two things:

    1. Went straight to Kevin Johnson and/or Burkle and said, 'we're selling the team, here's the price tag" and negotiated from there.

They've publicly stated their animosity towards both of those men so it's no surprise that things didn't unfold in that fashion. But what they definitely could have done was

    2. Negotiated a sale price with Hansen and then taken that figure back to Sacramento and said that if they could match it they'd sell locally.

Those are the actions of an ownership group that prefers to keep the team in town.

What the Maloofs did was a negotiate exclusively with Hansen/Ballmer and then sign a "binding" agreement to sell to them without negotiating other offers. That is most decidedly NOT the course of action pursued by an owner who would prefer not to uproot a franchise and screw over a fan base.

If the Kings do end up staying in Sacramento it won't be in any way because the Maloofs wanted that to be the outcome. It will be because Stern and the BOG dictated that outcome. There's no redemption available for the Maloofs in this story. They are the bad guys.

Take heart, KIngs fans. Seattle Times did survey and found just 4.1% like NBA basketball. Citizens liked figure skating and gymnastics more!
Yep, they really want a team up there. I hate polls like this, but 4.1% is dam low even if you had a 25% variance it still would be low.

    Here is the article.

Hold the phone! I used the wrong total parking concession number. 5,144 is the total number of city owned garage parking spaces within the railyards walking distance. This does not include several garages that outside of that range. So the percentage could be lot better than 37%. I'm not worried so much about the parking issue itself as much as the value of the concession.

The garages not included in the 5,144 are the Capitol, City Hall, Memorial and East End Garage. The Capitol and City Hall garages should now also be within a few blocks of the DTP arena site and be worth $ per space more to the vendor. This is without losing the 5,144 within close range of DTP. It might actually even itself out having more garages in range with fewer total spaces overall.

That number does not surprise me. I lived there for 10 years and I'm honestly amazed any major sports franchise can survive in a town that cynical. It's a beautiful city filled with a population of highly educated, creative, arrogant, and generally miserable people. Not the best pool for sports fans.

I don't defend them. Much of what you sat is true. Getting say $200 million instead of $100 million I believe is the difference. I would guess they have had some empathy towards Sacto but not enough to cause them to express it in any way until they got their bucks. I wouldn't have behaved the same way but I think I see natural selfish method in their madness.

They definitely had a huge number in mind. They even floated the $500M number out there a few months ago. Then they started raving about how the team was worth more due to their "mobility", used VB to show it and pump up the price and got a desperate buyer to bite and offer $525M.

I think if they had said "sure, we'll sell to Sacramento for $500M", they would have been laughed out of town. They had to go out and get someone desperate enough to put that number on the table. On top of that, they got a sweet $30M just for signing a "binding" contract. Why wouldn't they? If Sac puts up a fight and ends up keeping the team, they get their price PLUS the $30M. If not, they still get their price.

Whethere it was intentional or not, excluding Sacramento worked well for them. They got their price, and suckered Hansen into not only paying their price but also handing them $30M if it didn't work out. Even if they thought Sacramento would put up a fight (I would imagine they expected it), it's worth it for them. I wouldn't doubt that they even knew about the right of first refusal (assuming it exists) but chose to "overlook" it to secure their $30M non-refundable deposit and cement the $525M sale price.

Sleazy? Sure. But their ultimate goal was MONEY. As much as possible. Doesn't matter where the team ends. They have no intentions of being part of this community anymore, so why would they care about burning bridges or building animosity?

And that's really all you need to keep in mind when you're talking about the Maloofs.

For all the vitriol and anger Seattle fans tend to hurl at Clay Bennett and OKC, they themselves are worse. Much worse.

The vast majority of posts were mocking or jeering comments directed towards Sacramento's efforts to retain the Kings with the occasional disclaimer of fake sympathy.

    Shameful really.

The Sonics were taken from them in shady and unfair circumstances, but they are more than happy to do exactly the same to another group of fans. Knowing what the experience is like and yet gleefully wishing for it to happen to others makes them worse than OKC.
Earlier in this thread, I had said I hadn't read from that site. The temptation got the better of me and I went there.

In Seattle's defense, I wouldn't make the few who posts at that site to be any more representative of Seattle than the cave dwellers who post on the Bee as being representative of Sacramento.

    Oh, believe me I know.

I have family in Seattle who, while big sports fans, have a decidedly different outlook on this situation.

My comments are solely about the fans posting on that site.

Contrary to previous reports, Mark Mastrov bid $420 million to buy Golden State Warriors in 2010, source tells The Bee. Not $350 million

Yep. They had no problem putting cities against each other and wasting public dollars sp that they could get the highest price for the team. They're gutless.

Mastrov/Burkle will no doubt have a great offer, and KJ i THINK, will get a finalized arena deal done, its all gonna come down to the BOG.

i heard we only need 8 out of 29 NO votes to block sale

Finally got some confirmation on the $30 mil deposits non refundable part.

Michael McCann ‏@McCannSportsLaw @section_101 Excellent point - under California law a buyer can reclaim some or all of "nonrefundable" deposit depending on circumstances.
Only way the Maloofs can keep the $30 mil is if Hansen doesn't ask for it back or they can some how prove damages. Kinda hard to prove damages if they have an equal offer on the table.

"The current Sacramento Kings owners have proven time and time again that they do not care about the squad’s fans, the community that surrounds the team, and the product on the court. The Sacramento Kings owners are sniveling, conniving front-runners that do not understand the game of basketball, much less the ideals that help buttress attempts at tact, poise and reason." - Kelly Dwyer

You pretty much nailed Seattle. Lived there for four years very recently (see picture). Nobody wants to be your friend. Portland has much more verve.

They do seem to love the soccer though. Probbly cause it's European and cool.

There just isn't the zing for a team throughout a large section of a population like there is in Sacto. I get it that a certain section of folks are dying for the Sonics to come back, but it doesn't pervade the population at ALL, like it does in Sac. Very different demographic situation.
    Big picture.
