Bee editorial on Kings stay or go says

    basically let them go...

A not surprising and depressing overall assessment. Indicates move to Seattle is more likely than Virginia Beach - if there is one. Implies Maloofs have two-faced attitude and now Sacramento fans voting with their feet by staying away in droves from ancient arena. NBA attendance dead last at around 12,500 per game. Read and enjoy...

"I want the community to know that we're going to fight like crazy to get to where we need to be."
    – Kevin Johnson, reacting to reports of a potential sale of the Kings to a Seattle group

What's the difference between ignorance and indifference? I don't know and don't care.

depressing though it may be, there is nothing in that article that is dramatically skewed or spun. at the end of the day, its about fairness, and the proposed arena deal was fair to everyone involved. after celebrating the deal in handshake, the maloofs decided to turn it down, signalling their intentions. the city should not get in a bidding war over the kings. they should not alter their deal to benefit an ownership group that remains uncommitted to sacramento. if the maloofs are determined to move, they will, provided the league signs off on the move. as the article points out, virginia beach is a longshot. and while it would sting the league to see the kings leave sacramento after the investment of so much effort and so many millions, it would be something of a minor victory to see a team return to seattle...

Last night Napier went off on a few people telling them that the Arena deal was awful for the Maloofs. He also said he talked to 3 independent sources that said they, nor would any other owner have signed that deal.

    Strong words.

He also alluded to things going on right now behind the scenes.

I don't really buy any of this, but as a media member isn't it his duty to share this information if he actually has it, rather than hint and allude to things? I mean I don't really believe him, but I would like to know what the hell he is talking about.

It is interesting that the NBA (commissioners office) would design a deal that was "awful" for one of it's owners. It is also interesting that this "awful" deal was not rejected out of hand by the Maloofs.

He's not a media member, he's a mouthpiece. All reports at the time of the deal were that the NBA loved it. Presumably that means that other owners would indeed have signed off on it - I do think there were several owners that did say that it was a good deal, if anybody cares to go back and look. More maloof lies coming out Grant's mouth is what it sounds like to me.

I stopped listening to Grants show. When he is not being an obvious mouthpiece for the Maloofs he is just another obnoxious jerk with a mostly negative opinion. I kept listening to his show for awhile even though I wasn't enjoying it. I had it after he spent twenty minutes ranting about the cost of a cab ride. I guess he's broke.

Exactly right. Napear is not a journalist, just a hack propagandist following orders. The blowhard professional liar is simply MSE mouthpiece as long-time employee. As this arena thing goes along towards a cliff I'm more and more resigned to Kings probably leaving. Only silver lining is arrogant, rude, thoroughly obnoxious Napear is likely to head out the door with them.

I've heard that what is coming soon is a pitch to the city of Sacramento on the current arena retrofit. Of course it has all the usual Maloof disingenuous intentions and ulterior motives. But it adds to their argument that the city does not want the team.

Grant chose one career hat over any others. His career choice is professional sports play by play man. Being loyal with his employers fits right in with his choice and could keep him in that career for a long time. The problem is that it totally sinks his credibility on any discussions that have to do with the Kings. His mistake was that he tried to wear both hats on the radio.

If that is what is coming, KJ has already said they will do what they can with permits, etc., (IIRC) to help out but will not contribute directly to the retrofit. As they should, since it is a privately-held building. But they should also remember that any "retrofit" will likely be small scale if proposed - no new construction in Natomas, remember?

So they will "help" as they can, but it really wouldn't be much of a proposal at this point I think.

The city is not going to expend money on retro-fitting STA. No retrofit is going to fix what's wrong. It might extend its life for a couple more years. but why waste money that way? There would be no benefit to the city in such a deal. The benefit would be to the arena and team owners, primarily the Maloofs. They benefit, they should bear all the costs, if that's what they want.

Let's see, the NBA was going to give the Maloofs $7 million dollars and arrange favorable financing for the Maloofs for their share of the arena deal. I doubt the NBA was willing to risk money on a bad arena deal. I also doubt that AEG was willing to risk their money on a bad deal. That's just a load of crap from the Maloofs. They are just flat out too poor to play owners in professional sports anymore. That's the real truth.

Napear is just a talking head that speaks based on which way the Maloof wind is blowing. That wind is blowing from the garbage dump.

things are NOT looking good. especially when u see Carmichael Dave, who has always been optimistic that the team will stay, saying things like this today on Twitter

    Carmichael Dave ‏@CarmichaelDave
Ill say this: I believe George Maloof wants out. I believe he's driving the bus. I believe they CAN'T say so. I believe the clock is ticking

    Carmichael Dave ‏@CarmichaelDave
The arena deal is on the table from the city STILL. It ain't happening. They (Ms) know this market is scorched. Doesn't matter where they go

    Carmichael Dave ‏@CarmichaelDave
Bottom line, I believe Sac is out of the picture. Seattle, VB, who knows. Eventually they will find a deal and take it.

    Carmichael Dave ‏@CarmichaelDave
The sliver of hope was the team having success.Ain't happening, and they can't fix it.The city and fans have done ALL they can and then some

    Carmichael Dave ‏@CarmichaelDave
IMO, the ONLY chance of keeping this team is banking on the Maloofs inability to close a deal elsewhere, for whatever reason.

Grant is correct because it actually is an awful deal for the Maloofs...as they cant afford to add another nickel to their debt.

Grant Napear is not a journalist nor a reporter. He's a sports talk show host who also draws a large paycheck from the Maloofs. If he said, for example, that the arena deal was great for the Maloofs and that numerous NAMED sources have said so, he'd most likely be sitting in Carmichael Dave's garage fighting for mike time.

Bad deal for the Maloofs. Great deal for the NBA and most any other NBA team. I think the Maloofs will be forced to sell, before they get any move approved.

First the Bee editorial basically throws in the towel on Kings staying in Sacramento - now Breton does the same but even more forcefully. Ends his column with "good riddance."

If the Maloofs decide they have to sell, then Sacramento has a buyer who will also help with the arena deal. The team can't go to Seattle unless the Maloofs are willing to sell. Once they are willing to sell, Sacramento has a very good shot at keeping the team here and getting a new arena.
