Hide the women and children -- this ain't going to be pretty:

Peja ( C- ) -- 5 games into the season now, and still waiting to see Peja show up. Tonight did not stand out in his badness, but instead joined the rest of the team in a curious malaise. Would make the occasional shot, a good play here and there, and then come back and make a dumb mistake or miss a chippee next time down the floor. Just no flow, no rhythm.
Webber ( D ) -- did not look good on the second night of the back to back. In the first half actually had a number of good shots, but they just wouldn't fall. Everything was in and out. Thankfully realized he was ice cold and quit shooting the ball after awhile. Did not compound his lack of production with lack of intelligence. Briefly seemed to get inspired by Brad's effort and joined him in some tough play underneath. A few good passes, but just looked tired, uninspired and terribly groundbound all night long.
Miller ( B ) -- ony King to really bring any sort of game tonight. Sonics big men were playing really rough and Brad, at least, started playing burly ball in response. Lost his cool a little bit, but at least was banging around and trying on a night when nobody else could seem to summon up any energy.
Christie ( C- ) -- getting a little concerned about Doug. Had no training camp of course, but is the foot truly healed? And of course at his age you always worry is this the year he gets old? Maybe too early for that yet, but we're 5 games into the season now and Doug isn't giving us much of anything. Leaving a big hole in our lineup over at OG. No offense at all. Was off and on with his defense vs. Allen. Made a couple of good hustle plays, but like the rest of the team could not sustain.
Bibby ( D ) -- frustrated me so much with his bleeping free throw shooting that I wanted to just give him an "F". While we had all sorts of other problems, he and Brad missing FT after FT whenever we were trying to make a move really hurt. Just ugly. Particularly when you are an 80%+ shooter. Also had serious defensive issues with Luke Ridnour. Did bring some effort, and was making smart/saavy plays in order to get to the line. Unfortunately the way he was shooting FTs, him going to the line was almost like a TO for us.
BJax ( C- ) -- did not play particualrly well, and yet was one of the more effective Kings. In the first half gave us no offensive spark at all when we desperately needed it, but did do a good job of harassing Ray Allen on defense. In the second half hit an occassional shot, but again, and stop me if you've heard this before, could not sustain. No rhythm.
Barnes ( C- ) -- ah, the bubble bursting game for Matt. Still had pretty good energy, but on tonight looked like a camp invitee who made the team. energy, but no polish. Bad mistakes.
Tag ( F ) -- ugly ugly ugly. Think we need to vote him "out of shape guy most in need of training camp". Just did nothing except stick his arm out to pick up fouls.
Songaila ( D ) -- paging Darius! yoohoo! Gave us nothing on a night when we desperately needed somebody to give us a shot in the arm. You know it sucks when you're looking for Darius to bail you out. In any case, just wasted floor time. No better or worse than most of the rest of the team.
Evans ( D+ ) -- did nothing in a short first half stint when it mattered. Made a play or two in the second half, but not much production. Kind of been that way so far -- will give you a good game, and then just a scrub game. This was the scub game.
Martin ( INC ) -- finally made a good move in the last minute of the game. Might be his first in real NBA action. Otherwise, same deal. does nto look ready.
Daniels ( INC ) -- grabbed a few boards, and then threw the ball all over the court. Looked like an undrafted rookie 12th man.

Adleman ( D ) -- let me say this -- its hard to directly pin this one on Rick. There was exactly one player on the entire Kings squad who showed up to play today. It wasn't Rick's rotations -- there were no players to call upon and tonight the bench situation looked as dire as could possibly be. Wasn't play calling -- whatever we called was irrelevant. But for whatever reason we did not just show up to play. Even when we seemed to be trying in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, we simply had no focus. And rightly or wrongly that falls on the coach's lap. So this is really the team grade with a little bump for Rick for not doing anything obviously wrong himself.

Sorry, Brick. Barnes was a big fat F tonight. I don't think he made ONE positive play tonight, on either end of the floor.
He did show that he can't shoot, can't pass, misses layups, can't play defense is undersized for whatever position he's playing.

That was a VERY disappointing game - those were generous grades. But at least Brad tried, or from my point of view, he looked like he did.

You know, the thing is I've seen each one of our major players play worse games individually. It was the fact that they were ALL playing that way at once which was so amazing. Team grade = "F".

I seriously cannot remember the last time I saw the Kings play this bad. Sure they've been beat bad before, but this was quite possibly the ugliest game I have seen in the last 5-6 years from this team.

I am glad I didn't rush home to watch the game.

Do the Kings origization REALLY think we have any chance at all with THIS second unit? What are they thinking?

These performances remind me eerily of the performances put forth in the preseason from this team...who knows why they play games like this, but this is now three games out of five where they just haven't shown up to play. We gave them an excuse in Texas against two "good" teams in the Mavs and Spurs, but the Sonics hand the Kings the biggest whooping. And the common thread on all three of those nights seems to be offense (or complete lack thereof). How does a pro basketball team shoot less than 30% from the field for the first half? Are these guys getting paychecks for this game?

And how do the Kings get worked on the boards by the worst rebounding team in the NBA last season?

This is much more about the starters and their complete lack of cohesion out there on the floor. How can they put forth a performance like they did against Toronto, then just seemingly abandon everything on the offensive end when they step onto the floor in Key Arena? And it's almost entirely driven by the poor offense that is being run by this team. I don't know if Adelman has decided to stop coaching, or if he's now coaching offense too much, but whatever the Kings are doing is NOT working.

As far as I can tell it's the first unit that has been sucking!!! Bench or no bench the first unit has been getting destroyed. They should not have to rely on the bench to get the team out of a big hole, that is not the way its supposed to be.

The second unit only dug the last few shovelfuls of this hole. Starters played most of the first 3 quarters. Kings were (I think) 4-20 in the first quarter...many clanks for everyone....deja vu, are we still in the 2003-4 playoffs? This was not team ball from the tip off (ok, I'm lying...I missed the 1st couple of minutes due to watching part of the Cav's comeback).

I hope this is the ugliest Kings game I see all season. No smart remarks! I'm too much of a fan/masochist to just turn the game off! :D

Houston and Toronto were encouraging because they played (mostly) as a team, tonight's game was just ugly 1 on 5 ball, at least that's my uneducated opinion. My heart hurts! :o

But I see it as a cycle. Our bench sucks. Our starters need to produced. If someone has an off night. Nobody can help. Our starters get worn out.

And the season is only 5 game old! I can't imagine how ugly this year would be.

My guess? Bibby's freaked out about tomorrow's big ceremony in Arizona. He doesn't strike me as the type of person who is all too comfortable with being the center of that much attention.

I mean, think about it, when was the last time you saw Mike go 5/10 at the line?? There's got to be a reason in there somewhere. I expect (well, hope is more like it, I'm wary of the word "expect" this year) that he'll have a monster game after the festivities.

P.S. This is in no way intended to be an excuse. The performance of the entire team was inexcusable. Just ugly, ugly basketball.

You forgot the disclaimer that reads "I'm GoGoGadget and I endorse the preceding statement". :D

I'm KingsKings! and I endorse GoGoGadget's statement.

Sorry, I'm having trouble releasing both tonight's ugly loss AND the presidential election. :D

Only one problem, Mike is usually SO clutch that nothing bothers him and you'd think he has too much pride to show up tomorrow for the ceremony after an uck performance by himself and his team.

One thing does bother him, though, and that's when people point out how good he is. Jinxes him.

There was a game (season before last, I think, but I could be wrong) where he was on the verge of breaking the franchise record for consecutive free throws. One of the commentators mentioned that a writer joked with Mike about it before the game and Mike said something about jinxing it. Sure enough, he tied the record early in the game, missed the next free throw and shot poorly from the line for the rest of the game.

We have a Seattle Kings fan here on the board and I swear that was him sitting behind the railing with a Go Kings! banner on the Railing. Anybody else see him?

I agree with most of Brick's grades,

Notes from me

1. The Webber situation is looking more serious, if he is going to be this hobbled in back-to-backs its going to be a long season
2. Tolbert was right about one thing when you go to the bench for the Kings, they're is no one there to do anything except Bjax....also no one cuts to the basket or can beat their man one-on-one right now, its like a jump shooting frenzy, and when you are struggling you have to try to force the action and get easier shots....go to the basket.
3. Bibby is getting picked at an alarming rate
4. Christie isnt right.....he cant even score really, and most of his jumpers have been very short.
5. Hmmm cardinal rule of basketball is not to foul a 3pt shooter, somehow Maurice Evans managed to do it twice in one game. and i think y'all are beginning to see what I was saying about his game, he has no ability to create his own shot, and his jumper is god awful. sure he can jump out of the gym but that doesnt equal quality player.
6. Miller showed he cares but its not like Danny Fortson hasnt been doing this throughout his career. thats the type of player he is, if you cant elevate to his level thats not the coaches fault, thats a player issue, its like they all want each other to pick up the physical slack, no one is going out there saying "I'm going to be the physical presence tonight"
and lastly,
7. Sloter is right Barnes is garbage, i thought he has improved, but he is good as a non-option on the floor...the scrapper, but most of his minutes are coming where they are expecting him to handle the ball alot and his early success has him fooled on his abilities, its time to scour the waiver wire quickly for a big man and another small forward who can score. Evans and Barnes aint gonna cut it.

My Goodness! Who were those people running around wearing Kings uniforms? I was so excited to see a game and did hurry home. That was not a top team of the West out there. A long way to go to get in the top 10. Come on guys.......

Hey, while we're at it let's go blame the Maloofs too!

And for that matter the whole damn organization stinks too!

He did show that he can't shoot, can't pass, misses layups, can't play defense is undersized for whatever position he's playing.
Barnes can do all of the above. He didn't do any of them last night, but that's a far cry from not being able to do them.

Not a single King (we played like the Queens last night, sad to say) did any of the above. They all can. There's a difference.

About the only thing I agree with you on is that Barnes is undersized when trying to guard 6'10" Rashard "Mongoose" Lewis.

he actually broke the record.. he currently holds the franchise record with 49 (if i remember correctly) straight made FTs.. peja, just this last week was close to breaking mike's record.. he came within about 3 or 4 until he missed a FT..

I think Peja did break that record last season....or it didn't count becasue it carried on into the playoffs, not sure. I do however know Peja holds the record for consecutive games with at least 1 (made) 3pt shot actually he broke it and then broke his own record :)....Of course none of that matters right now since he can't seem throw a ball into the Pacific

i thought that elbow in miller's face was going to unite the kings and show the sonics who their daddy was.

well, that didn't happen. miller was the army of one out there, all of the others either didn't care or were too tired to care.

i think it didn't count, reina, cause it carried on into the playoffs.. i just read last week from the sacbee about peja being 4 (?) FTs away from breaking mike's record.. so obviously, i was closely watching peja's FTs.. ;) he made 2 FTs then missed his 3rd (i think).. i don't remember exactly how many consecutive FTs peja hit (over the season) but i'm sure he didn't break the record.. :)

But, the jist of my little story still remains the same.

Right??
