Well this is from my point of view:

First of all, he's such a bandwagoner. Before his son was on the Lakers, he kept on saying how the Lakers are just going to win it all year after year. After they lost, he kept on switching his so called "favorite teams".

Second, whenever any team would play the Lakers, he would always say something negative about that team and compliment the Lakers.

Just listen to his comentary. If it starts making sense - please let us know. The fact that he favores LAL definitely speaks against him. BW is able to make a bad game even worse.

Lakers are irrelevant when it comes to Walton. He's still a bombastic fool even when covering Magic vs. Hawks. Never understood why some people actually LIKE to have that loudmouthed buffoon yabbering in their ears incessantly during games in order to make them "entertaining". Isn't the game entertaining enough itself? And isn't Walton the same insufferable fool who you make a point of NOT inviting over to your house to watch the game because he simply won't shut up and will constantly spew B.S. and ruin the game for everyone else?

LOL... Now every time I come across someone who fits that bill... I'll silently refer to them as a "Walton". I think we all have at least one Walton in our lives.

While Martin may look more than Doug facially, Barnes is actually impressing me as kind of a poor man's D.C. Nowhere near the defense of course. But long, athletic and versatile with a bit of a shaky jumper. And the thing I like is that he's a good and willing passer. Even saw us having him bring the ball up court there with Bobby in the game, which is one of the things that Doug can do for us that most OG types really can't.

There's positive reinforcement, and there's sticking our heads in the sand.

Why is Phoenix leading by almost 20?

Bricklayer
10-29-2004, 09:31 PM
This is kind of why I felt like the slack effort last night was a bit of a concern. Winning/losing doesn't matter in the preseason, but you would like to at least be playing solid cohesive ball by the last few games.

But now the preseason reality -- we were just in a lineup of 2 PGs (Bibby/Bobby), the smallest rookie SF in NBA history in Martin, an undrafted SF playing PF in Daniels, and an undersized reserve PF playing C in Songaila.

I'm not too concerned as the complete downfall in this game started as soon as Pedja was taken out of the offense (when Bobby Jackson entered the game).
However, here's one message for the Kings:
Suck it up and don't suck!

The "downfall of the Kings" had very little to do with Peja, and certainly nothing to do with the offense. We could have been on pace to score 120pts in the game and would still be being blown out. Fact of the matter is we played hard for about 4 minutes to start the game, were up 11-9. Then Phoenix ran of something like 14 straight points and never looked back.

sloter
10-29-2004, 09:50 PM
Yep, but Sacramento came back and were in the game exactly until the point when Jackson came in and Pedja didn't touch the ball for the last 2-3 minutes of the first quarter.

i didn't think i'd be concerned with how the kings are playing in a preseason game.. but wow.. we're getting killed out there.. i thought they'd want to win this game since it's the last game before the season starts.. oh well.. let's see what they got when they begin the season.. the defense tonight is absolutely TERRIBLE! oh god..

we allow them to score 74 at the half (43 in the 2nd)
they shoot 70% fgs and 73% 3fgs! (while we shoot 35%fgs, and 20% 3fgs)
they have 20 assists, we have 10
they have 26 rebs, we have 14

sigh.. let's hope they get it together in time for the mavs on tuesday..

Put the defensive problem aside, which I think is so obvious, I am concern about our rookie Kevin Martin. His body is just not ready for the NBA. A serval times he has to adjust his shoot to aviod body contact. He can't hit those shots like that. He just too weak out there.

Martin doesnt match up very well against this team.... Hopefully Barnes will become a consistent scorer. At the same time, I'm scared to see bobby running the second unit... Bobby, Martin, Barnes, Songailia and 'Tag... Bobby should get most of his minutes with the starters and let DC run the team. Sub Bobby in for Chirstie until the defense begins to suffer, then slowly bring in the second unit. I dont know... this bench just worries me, tons of hustle players but no scoring threat. Peja may have to play some serious minutes this season, cause we know webber cant, we cant take that risk...

Actually its because of the lack of proven bench scorers that we need Bobby to provide us with that lift off the bench (he's pressing right now though). But Barnes/Evans/whoever realy isn't the relative portion of the bench. Barring injuries those guys probably won't be playing many minutes. Its really Bobby/Tag/Songaila/Martin (and/or maybe Alexander).

Would love to have is a second proven scorer emerge back there. Martin or Alexander (if he makes it) seem like the best bets.

AriesMar27
10-29-2004, 10:56 PM
but with the guys that we have, who gives peja a rest? more importantly for how long? I dont know how long the team could hold up with both bibby and peja not on the floor unless webber And miller were out there. Maybe I should just wait until I see how well Tag plays, if he and Darius can hold there own, then i'll be ok with the bench.

Wow ugly, really ugly. I would feel alot beter about the season if the Kings had at least hung in there but thye got smoked... Ok sure it was preseason, sure Webber did not play, Tag did not play and DC played 7 min (0-3 shooting). But even so this was ugly. Not the feeling you want to see the team drag into the season. Of course this might motivate them to work harder and play harder.

OK tonights bright spots... Mo Evan.. the MO I see the Mo I like... It's not jsut his dunks, but his energy and movemnt with out the ball. That opp of His from Miller was picture perfect. His strenth give him an edge on some fo the other prospects. Daniels played a few serious min, but picked up garbage time as well. MOre good hustle but with Evans and Barnes ahead of him for a slot this might be the last time we see Daniels in a Kings jersey. Pdja definatly ahs his stroke back and Bobby is ready and able to lead the second squad... now if we can get a healthy crew the second squad may not be as bad as some folks feared. Bobby, Martin, Evans/Barnes, Songlia and Tag is not a bad second unit... really! I KNOW the starters can pull it together, but that does not mean that they don't have to... they do. The past 2 games havebeen relay bad for the starters and it is now up to them to pick it up pronto and head into Texas with an attitude and an arsenal.

I just realized that the finale was played in Arco Arena. It looked like the Kings took the night off. If they get blown away by the Mavs in the opener, that would be a cause for legitimate concern. But even then, it's still just 1 out of 82. It's a long season.

One question: Are the Kings still hungry?

VF21
10-30-2004, 01:36 AM
Okay, everyone quit panicking! ;)

My impressions of the game? We stunk. But we stunk for a variety of reasons that don't really have me sending up disaster flares quite yet.

First, the Suns were hitting everything from everywhere. At one point, their FG% was 72%. That was, in and of itself, unbelievable.

Second, the Kings just looked like they want the pre-season to be over and done with. In the Skyline Lounge after the game, after the initial crowd left, there were pretty much just a few of us - Koz on the air with Coach T and Scott Marsh. The consensus was that the China trip REALLY took its toil on the team and disrupted their whole routine of getting into game shape. I have to agree. They looked just slightly out of focus.

I have to give major props to Peja and Darius. I don't know how much you saw on TV and I don't know, of course, what the broadcasters had to say, but Peja was pretty much being mugged the entire time he was on the court. For the most part, I think he must have been invisible to the officials because he certainly didn't get the calls.

Darius didn't play perfect ball (none of them did) BUT he did play with hustle, intensity and - after one particularly nasty non-call in the second half - he played with a lot of focus. It was refreshing to see on a night when there wasn't a lot to be celebrating.

IMHO Matt Barnes has earned the right to continue to play for the Kings, as has Evans. I was not impressed with Daniels, who just didn't seem to be part of the flow. (Although considering the outcome of the game, that might not have been so bad...) He just didn't look good.

All in all, although it was an abysmal game if you just look at the score, I'm not going to throw in the towel. The veterans didn't play well and I think it was just mental exhaustion.

Speaking of exhaustion, I just realized I'm tired.

I'll catch up the prediction game results after I get some sleep...

Tidbit: When we left, we walked out next to Geoff Petrie. Unless I'm mistaken, he wears English Leather cologne.

I didn't say the team was using the trip to China as an excuse. While it may be one, I'm quite sure the team won't be using it.
